Rear left speaker in Oct vrs

Featured Replies

My standard rear left speaker seems to be resonating when theres is any bass, even if it the bass isnt much, it still resonates, is it goosed? and would skoda replace it, or would they say its misuse? when its really not.

Also why is the highest volume in the car set to 47, why not 50 or 48, WHY 47?

What's 47 in metric? It could be that.

Try just tightening the screws, if that doesn't work they should replace it FOC. I don't recall anything in the handbook about playing the stereo loud!

47. Bothered me, as well. Not even close to a power of 2 - if they were going use 6 bits, the volume could go up to 63 or perhaps cap it at a sensible number like 50. Or 47, as the mood took them. Grr

Easily niggled,

Si

47?

First, I thought it might be something to do with Gray code encoding (if 0 was 000000, 47 would be 111000), but on reflection it's probably far simpler:-

Well, it's not rocket science :p

No, I was trying to guess the reasoning behind the choice of 47 for the maxinum volume level. It's simpler to divide a circle into 48 segments than it is to divide in into 50 or 64 segments. The business end of the volume control will be an optical encoding disc, which presents a unique pattern of light and dark patches for each angular position (see attachment, it's for an 8-bit encoder, but it's the same principle).

BTW - what phrase do rocket scientists use for something that's not difficult?

I have just had a front left one replaced it was bad on bass toooooo

looking at things from another point of view it coudl be too tight when the bass hits part of the speaker might be hitting the plastic causing a buss...

other then that its probably had it..no bit of ice is ment to be played at full volume ! even tho it goes up that high..the HU will, clip and distort down around 30 - 35 even tho it goes to 47...in turn sending a dirty signal to speakers and thats the quickest way of killing them..especially when maintained song after song..and especially with OEM low quality and low powered speakers..

Day tripper I've got exactly the same problem (except it's on my right side) and just in the last couple of days worked out what it is - it's the plastic trim covering the B-post that buzzes with the least bit of bass, and not the actual speaker at all.

If you apply a little pressure with your fingertip to the bit of sliding plastic that blanks the slot where the seat-belt adjusts up and down the B-post, the buzz disappears. So I presume slotting a small bit of rubber pinched between the sliding plastic and the plastic trim to dampen the vibration would do the job... bit pikey in a new car though!

It hadn't crossed my mind to go back to the dealer, as I thought it was a bit trivial - but now it's starting to annoy. So has anyone else successfully gotten the dealer to refit/replace the B-post trim under warranty?
