DSG Sport issue on Fabia MKII VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have recently purchased my skoda fabia vrs MkII, I absolutely love it, however I have realised there is a small issue when it is put into sport. When I place it into sport and put the power on it doesn't seem to want to change gear up, and then flashes the engine management light, I was wondering if anyone else has seen or heard of this issue and maybe know the extent of the issue?

Cheers in advance,

Jack

Welcome.

So that is under load on Super Charger & Turbo up to 3,500 rpm, do not do that until you have it shorted out. Do not boot it, drive easy to a technician.

You can wreck the engine if a spark plug tip comes off.

What age of vRS, how many miles, and have the spark plugs had a change recently?

They need checked, as do the fault codes, but misfires might not be logged.

If it is just a misfire and the need to change the Spark Plugs, check the coils, or have the water pump / supercharger magnetic clutch replaced then that is the common issue.

See pinned thread at top of the page on Spark Plug Changes.

& there are threads on Water Pumps replacement.

......................................

Also for the future.

If it is ever the Flashing White Spanner that is showing.

Stop driving the car if it does this.  Get it looked at, and only by trained & qualified people.

Reduces what it could cost you for a new Mechatronic Control Unit or worse.

If it is a 2012 that neither had Service Campaign '34 F7' or needed '34H5' you can do terminal damage.

&

See the Pinned thread at he top of this section of the forum on DSG Service Campaigns & recent experiences of members.

If it is a 2010-2012 car has '34F7' been done?   Synthetic Oil Changed to mineral and a software update.

Ask Skoda UK CS what your car has had done or needs doing.

or 2013 to 2015 '34H5' a software update.

This does not show on the VIN checker if outstanding.   Check the Spare Tyre Well for a sticker showing if done.

Hi,

It was manufactured in 2010, and has 49k mileage on the shell, however previous owner blew the engine, so the engine was changed through warranty whilst it was under Evans halshaw hands, the engine was changed roughly 1500/2000 miles ago so should be run in, as I knew that there would probably be a history with a VRS as quite often that is all they are used for is a good thrashing, I took out 2 years worth of warranty, and was just wondering what the thoughts were from you chaps. It is just the standard Amber engine management light that comes on. The car is going to be booked in to be checked over and for looking through the fault codes. I now wish I was one of the idiots that thrashes cars on test drives, so I could have seen this issue prior to purchase,

Cheers

Jack

So you need to find out details of the engine fitted, was it a base engine so you still have a 8 year old water pump, or was that replaced.

You would hope so, and new belts fitted.

Anyway, the fault codes if there are any need read. The 4 spark plugs need inspected / changed,  that is all 4.

If they are not Ignition Coils that have been replaced then they might need replaced.

As far as Evans Halshaw a member with a dodgy Yeti recently got a new engine and that was a good news story.

With your car they will need to get it sorted out and fit for purpose, do not touch it yourself.

Offski knows his stuff on these engines! Flashing EML when booting it is a common sign of spark / coil pack issues!
