Retrofit automatic climate controls

Featured Replies

Hi! Just got my first Skoda, and I'm curious to modernize it a bit. I'd like to install a 2 DIN player, and if it's possible, it'd be really cool if I could install an automatic climate control module. I also want to retrofit cruise control.

This is the center control as it sits today.

To install the 2 DIN player I'll just need some fascia plates, but I'm not sure what I'd need to fit the control module.

This is the old control module, and obviously the connectors are different from the automatic one. Still, I'm wondering if it's possible to buy a different module and perhaps there are some adapter cables available?

This is an automatic module. Does anyone know if there are adapter cables available?

This is all for my 2007 Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 4x4

Hi,

It cannot be done without changing the whole system to dual zone, you have single zone.

I changed mine from single to dual zone and it works perfectly, you have to change the whole heater box behind the dashboard, and change the wiring over so it will work.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply! Do you know what the heater box part is called, and what I need to order for it all to work? Was it a difficult job?

Hi,

All I did was look out for a dual zone heater unit, I got mine from someone that was breaking a car, so I had the whole lot, heater box, sun light sensor (important wont work without it), wiring and I had to put an extra wire to the fuse box cos dual zone has 2 feeds not one.

I take it you have the controller already?, the wiring is slightly different between the 2 units, it's easy, the plug come apart and the terminals push out and click back in, I have the 2 wiring diagrams to compare.

Main differences are single zone is semi automatic, manual flaps as you know, dual zone fully automatic and they don't mist up easily either like the single zone, don't know if you have the same problem, I noticed when it was raining I could see and got out for about 5-10 mins, when I got back in could not see a thing, windows were all misted up, since I swapped system no more misting up.

Hope this helps, any questions ask away,

This sounds like an interesting retrofit.

Would you please be kind enough to give a list of parts that i may need to get to convert my single zone to dual zone. And if u can give an idea of the whole procedure then it will be of more help.

My car is a 2010 skoda octavia mk2 1.8 tsi ambiente.

Are there not also sensors in the upper eye level outlets that will need to be fitted?

I have just had the dash out of a Yeti to replace it and all the airbags that had deployed, I thought about fitting climatronic at the same time but even with the dash out removing the heater system looked far too complicated, I noticed that my new reconditioned dashboard had holes in the upper ducts for sensors that my vehicle did not have hence my question.

They came with the dual zone heater box, they are required on dual zone, I think there is only one on single zone I seem to remember, it was 2014 when I swapped mine over.

Sounds like my poverty spec Yeti has a single zone heater then, I know it isnt Climatronic, will have eyes on it again next week, something else to check.

Hi Alexius,

You will need the following,

Dual zone heater box (with wiring and sensors plus motors to move the flaps and blower fan)

Dual zone heater controller (with heated seats if got already)

Sun sensor (replaces the blank in the middle of dash)

Remove battery and have A/C de gassed, I put a shorted alternator belt on mine cos the compressor runs all the time.

Remove radio, and switches, top vents in dash, side panels either side of dash, glove box and lower dash panel drivers side

Remove the covers from the sides of the dash, you will see the nuts you need to remove after the dash cover is removed, these are the cross member nuts you can mark positions but I did not and it went back ok

You will now see the heater box, working in the engine bay remove the A/C pipes and cover with plastic bags and the coolant pipes (I clamped mine to stot fluid loss)

Remove the centre supports for the dash, then you can get to removing the heater box, there is a 10mm nut right in the corner on the left hand side as you look at it, it can be a bugger to see so you have to use feel, I did not put this back

Get another person at this stage to assist in the engine bay there is a large sealing grommet held with a metal wire clip, this will need feeding into the car as you pull the heater box out plug heater pipes as coolant will come out

I do have photos when I did mine, please PM me you email addy and I will send them.

Any more questions please ask, I also have the wiring diagrams to swap the wiring over.
