External coolant leak

Featured Replies

Had my 14 plate, 1.6 tdi roomser for just over a year now with no faults. Got in to drive the other morning on an early shift and the red coolant light came on as I left the drive way. Quick 5 min look, then a mad dash to wake the other half to get my Superb back to get to work on time. When I got back from work, there was a puddle of coolant under the roomster and the expansion tank was virtually empty. Couldn't see any leaks, so topped up, ran up, ragged around, parked up, checked again and no leaks. Next day, quite a sizeable puddle underneath, expansion tank dropped about 10mm. Still no visible leaks only a bit of coolant on top of the gearbox??

Jacked up, belly plate off, air box off, charge air hoses off and a small dribble of coolant coming from the upper back of the engine/gearbox joint, dripping off a mount/bracket lower down onto the O/S drive shaft at the gearbox. Have checked the rubber coolant hoses above the gearbox, but am having trouble with access and seeing the leak from the top.

Any ideas?? Is there any known issues with the plastic coolant hose above the gearbox??

Shot in the dark here!  Could it be the water pump?

Changed the plastic coolant hose above gear box and still got a leak. Found coolant bubbling up from the engine barcode sticker above gearbox where the block has been machined for the sticker?? Anyone else seen this?
