Purchasing without Skoda service history

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I'm considering buying a used 2014 Octavia Estate (2.0 TDi Elegance 4x4) and it has no  Skoda service history. Should this be a concern? What is the general opinion on the Skoda service plans?

I should add, It's a very clean car from a reputable dealer and has a FSH (handwritten from a local garage).

Any thoughts, much appreciated!

Peter

Thats completely your call - are their any invoices or receipts with the car or can your request from the Garage.  For me I'd want something to back up the hand written history.

What mileage is it - has the Haldex oil change been done.

Skoda service history is great while the car is under warranty, a 2014 won't be, and is getting to the stage that if anything major goes wrong, you'd get no contribution anyway. So I wouldn't worry myself. As long as the garage has the ability to reset the car's internal services timer thing.

As long as it's got a full service history which you can verify, e.g; call up the garage that's stamped the service book and ask them to confirm they've actually serviced the vehicle and what work was carried out.  Most garages will have a record of cars they service, MoT, etc.  Then google the garage themselves and make sure they're reputable.

It shouldn't be a concern if everything has been carried out to manufacturers schedule and using OEM parts.  If the garage who done the work is a reputable VAG independent specialist then IMHO, I'd say that trumped a main dealer stamp anyway.

I would check the servicing of the 4x4 (Haldex) system and DSG gear box (if an auto) and make sure that whatever needed to be done, has been done.

Just make sure all the dots join.  It's very easy to get a manufacturers service book and create a create a service history.

Better a car serviced by an establishment with all the gear and technicians / mechanics with the knowledge and licensed equipment that gives the TPI's / Service Campaign / Warranty details rather than Full Main Dealer Service History where even Service Guideline / Scheduled work might not get done.

ie DSG oil changes, Haldex Oil Changes, Brake Fluid changes etc.

So was the Haldex serviced at 3 years / 30,000 miles or 40,000 miles / 4 years or not serviced?
