SE Technology

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've ordered an SE Technology 1.6TDi Dsg.

No options, and the standard blue - it is on a lease deal.

Does anyone have one of these I'm the same spec? What do they seats look like? Are they patterned?

That's exactly the same spec that I've ordered.  I'll let you know in a few weeks (hopefully!).

In the meantime this video shows a similar spec:

Anyone, is the Karoq noisy on the motorway?

My Polo GTI (6R) is absolutely abysmal for road noise and makes a long journey very tedious

Here is a pic of my1.5 SE Tech. The seats are the same in manual and DSG. The Karoq is very quiet and smooth on motorway. Pretty powerfuli as it has a lot of low end so no need to rev highly. Think you will like the ACC. It makes it very relaxing to drive.

its not as loud as my yeti was quite quiet really depends on the road surface you dont have to shout or turn the  radio up

My 1.5 SE Tech has the same seats as those pictured, and I find it lovely and quiet on the motorway, not sure about the diesels, but my 2.0TDI Octavia was a lovely motorway cruiser.

2.0 TDI 4x4 Karoq, legal motorway speeds - 75-82 mph - cruising at around 1600 rpm in D7 overdrive, occasional switching down to D6 going up hills or passing with a bit more right foot. Quiet - except for the original Bridgestone tyres.

Oh, and average 50 mpg+ on a 1000 mile trip to Norway, about 50% motorway and the rest everything from off-road, high mountain passes, tunnels and what you might call A or B roads. Not bad for an extra 250 kg and 4x4 compared to the FWD versions.

Mileage about 15% better than the previous Yeti with the same engine and Haldex set-up.

Yeti comparison added.

Your 50+ mpg, how much more than 50mpg was it and was that measured or from the computer? I've just done my longest runs in the Karoq, 240 miles to Scotland, 240 miles back and some running about for a total of 511 miles on the tank and it averaged 50.7 according to the computer or 47.5 measured. It's pretty good for the power and size of car, but I'm struggling to get over 50mpg.

More detail

On my Superb 2 diesel, the computer has been bang on and also up to 7mpg out. It all depends on the mix of driving.

I can honestly tell you that I've got 62.1 mpg measured out of a tank. That stuck in my head and I told people for months. My 525d had never got past 37 mpg. Over time though, the real average is just over 48 mpg and the worst has been 44.5 mpg.

I also discovered that my car does 5-6 mpg better when driven in the UK (Holyhead to Oxford specifically). I couldn't figure that out as I've done similar motorway drives here in Ireland.  Then I realized that our motorways have far less traffic and I rarely get to "slipstream" much. The driving is easier but I tend to be pushing all the air out of the way on my own.

I think your 47.5 measured on a tall 4x4 SUV on a Scottish drive is pretty damn good. Get yourself on a motorway behind a load of Kodiaqs and Lorries for a few hours and you'll blow past that 50mpg ceiling, no problem.

With the different tyres and wheels, the speedometer has been calibrated against GPS - Garmin, not the on_board one - and is pretty near dead on. The consumption was measured by the on-board computer, and was over 50 mpg (converted from km/l values) - so better than 49 and not 51.

On three separate 380 km motorway runs, the indicated consumption was 18.7 km/l (52 mpg) at an average speed  of 110 km/h (68.75 mph). The Norway trip included about 1/3 Motorway, 1/3 Norwegian A-roads and tunnels and 1/3 mountain roads with very slow progress. The best indicated mileage was on the Norwegian A-roads, with 80 km/h limit - and not always possible, and the worst was in the mountains. all the driving was in standard "D" mode, but a very few descents in Off-road mode to demonstrate it to the co-driveret.

There is no point in arguing plus or minus a 1 mph of so, whether on tank fillings or the on-board computer. The most interesting is that this is about 10% better than the Yeti FL with the same engine and same Haldex. The Karoq is about 250 kg heavier than the yeti, but likely a bit more streamlined and smaller cross section.

Thanks both. I won't argue over 1-2 mpg but its worth it to me know that the 'best' figures are given by the computer. When I find someone local with VCDS I'll fix the 6% error on my trip computer.

You may be able to modify the speedo/odometer in VCDS to be closer to accurate. On the other hand, there seems to be an idea that tank-to-tank measurements are accurate, which I doubt. The metering is likely OK from the pumps, but the shut-off point is doubtful - from pump to pump or with the same pump. I assume the measuring is back pressure, which is not a very accurate one, so a liter or two difference from tank to tank is not an unreasonale assumption. After all, the shut-off setting is just to avoid spillage, not part of the volume measurement.

Long term measurement of pumped volume is quite accurate when calculated, but mileage still relies on the not so accurate speedometer/odometer readings.
