Front inner tyre wear

Featured Replies

2014 1.6td Spaceback continues to wear out the inner edges of the front tyres despite two independent wheel alignment checks. The only angle a little out of spec is front caster at a little over 4 degrees on both sides but as this is non adjustable, unless I try to find adjustable strut tops, there's nothing I can do about this.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

When the inner edge has worn, what tread depth is across the rest of the tyre?

If the inner edge is wearing much quicker than the rest of the tyre and writing off the tyre when there is loads of tread remaining elsewhere then I'd be pursuing Skoda.

Given that you've had two alignments done I'm assuming you've suffered the wear on at least two sets of tyres? This might suggest the fault the was there whilst the car was still under warranty. If the required alignment isn't adjustable then your car has a manufacturing defect, or has suffered damage.

I'm not sure how you would go about checking this but has the car maybe come from the factory with the springs from the TSi instead of the heavier duty ones designed for the diesel?

That would put more pressure on the front springs and make the inner edges of the tyres wear faster

mine does this innerwear thing...I get mine aligned and balanced every 3 months (particularly before a long journey). Mine sits lower than most and has larger wheels but Skoda wasn't interested when I spoke to them.

^^^ Is the alignment ever off and needing adjusting, or the wheels needing balanced?

?

Do you work for a company that does Alignment Checks and Balancing and on a freebie, and how many miles a year do you do?

alignment is out every 6 months or so... I use my local F1 Auto centre as they had a hunter alignment system - they'd changed it the last time I went in

at 45,000 miles (jan 18) I came out with:

Left Front

-0.58 camber, 0.04 toe

Right Front

-1.24 camber, 0.04 toe

Front total toe 0.08

Left rear

-1.47 camber, 0.11 toe

Right rear

-1.22 camber, 0.25 toe

Total toe 35

Thrust angle -0.07

It's been since and they got it better again but the tyres are starting to wear on the inner edge...

OK, i read what you posted and that was every 3 months (particularly before long a long journey)    which is why i asked.

So is it out every 3 months after a check?

EDIT.

What are these wheels that are large, and why is it lower than most, and what do you mean Skoda are not interested?

potholes everywhere on the roads here...with lots of speed bumps to :(

You need a different car then.  Maybe a Unimog.

I’m looking at Audi Q7 or a swamper VW transporter.
