Best way to treat small paint damage

Recommended Posts

I would have someone with the gear and an idea, so a Qualified Car Sprayer / Independent Inspector check out your paint.

Looks like a preparation issue there.  ie Refinished maybe / Kerb Side Auto standard paint from the factory or after.

Maybe just damaged and paint removed, but also maybe poor paint application / preparation.

So ASAP have it checked out, and the rest of the paint.

How old is the car?

Is that white or silver? White would be much easier to fix for cheaper. Failing that, a smart repair is normally around £60 for something like that.

Not sure you'd sort it for £50 unless you planned to DIY. A smart repair should do the job for less than £100 though. I've had a similar scuff sorted on a previous car for about £70.

Agreed. a rattle can of the correct paint is £25 from a professional mixer (not feckin halfords before som smart alec butts in) and you would need a good laquer, a dust free garage and a couple of hours to let it dry if you havent got heat lamps.

Enlarge / blow up the picture.

See the mess the area is already with the lacquer coming off, and the plastic where the paint is coming off looking like there was no way the paint was going to key to it.

Get a Paint Specialist or just a body shop to inspect the paint work.

That is not a quick simple touch up, check and see if that is Factory Paint or already 'Kerbside Auto's'  or some Smart Repairer was already there before doing their job.

Someone that was not working in a dust free garage or the likes.

Thanks for replies. The bumper was replaced last year after someone hit the car. Comments above make me wonder if the company which carries out the insurance work didn't carry out the work properly.

The car is silver and its a 63 plate.

I would be going back to the insurance company/bobyshop and getting them to sort it as it is clearly substandard work and it should not flake off like that in such a short time. I would be wanting them to do it for free and put right what they have not done correctly in the first place.

Whoever replaced the bumper and sprayed it should be ashamed of their self.    Go back and tell then they are rubbish. That is if they still work there.   But best first tell the insurer that paid for the work about it,  the job should be guaranteed.

Having had insurance repair done in the past I think there was a three year warranty on my bodywork. That said they did a crap job and it had to be brought back 4 times in one month!! Insurance company should be held accountable.
