Hi recently brought a mk1 octy vrs.

It's in need if some (a lot of tlc) wondering while I'm at if if there are any swaps in parts worth doing to improve reliability/durability.

Also I'm in need of a new nearside wing body panel(silver) is anyone has any sources for either a salvage one or new at decent price would be much appreciated.

I have a wing in Magic Black (1Z/1Z) but I'll have to check what side it is.

I've found the main body on the MKI to be great for rust (or lack of) but it's worth keeping an eye on the bolt on bits as these can eventually rust badly e.g. Radiator surround/ mount panel, Front subframe, mid crossmember (supports exhaust) and rear trailing torsion arms. One part of the body to check is where the from subframe attaches to the body each side.  I always paint these areas on mine with a mixture of wayoyl and clean oil every few years. Not worth doing this on the other front suspension arms as they will probably have been changes/ will be changed as suspension bushes wear out (which they do!).

If you ever fail an MOT re driveshafts it's worth fitting new ones (not too expensive) because the inner joints can dry out/fail as well so if a few years old - it's a job worth doing.

The radiator has been know to gradually fail - look for stains either side. You might not notice a drop in coolant for years but it's worth doing to improve reliability as you can guarantee it will suddenly leak more when you least want it to. On my small engined one it was an easy job - but always fit new O rings.

I'll not mention obvious service items - but obviously make you know the cam belt /water pump history.
