Transmission not engaging on brake release

Featured Replies

After stopping at a junction the transmission on my car no longer re-engages after releasing the brake - as it used to until a couple of weeks ago. I have to press the accelerator now to move forward. Similarly when I use start/stop the engine doesn't start on brake release - I have to put pressure on the accelerator or press the on/off button for start/stop.

Anyone got any suggestions about what might have happened/what to do to rectify it?

I have experienced that several times, most of them were in gas station
guessing there are some stupid intellect in car which decides you have arrived

Sounds like u have "auto hold" activated........

To turn it on/off......wat @BillyJim said above.

`Start-Stop` on(default)

`Auto Hold` off

and then comes message on MaxiDot, something like "start engine manually"

As above, sounds like you’ve got auto hold switched on.

Auto hold. +1

I fell foul of this too.

You will also see a green parking brake symbol in the instrument cluster...

Thanks. I was wondering what that light was for, but too lazy to get the manual out!

Doh! I suspected it might be something simple and yes it is indeed the auto hold. Thanks to all for pointing out the obvious.

As I have DSG I'd not bothered with auto hold. I gather it is similar to the hill hold control I used to have on my manual Yeti. But what is the point of it when you have DSG, which with or without auto hold engaged will not roll backwards?

I agree, I have DSG also and never use the auto hold, it stops the natural creep function of an auto which I like to have. Even with auto hold off, you still get the hill hold function.

First dsg I’ve had and I use auto hold all the time, It creeps along just fine with gentle pressure on the brake pedal to slow or stop and will start creeping again when brake pedal released. Harder push on brake pedal when stopped and it will sit there with the brakes applied without having to keep foot on brake.

I had the auto hold on my previous Golf and wish I had it on my Superb, unfortunately it is too old (mechanical handbrake). I thought it way great, come to a stop, it engages so now you can take your foot off the brake pedal (and the engine would auto stop) when you want to get moving simply prod the left pedal is so easy. In my current car I have to keep my foot on the foot brake . No big deal but not as good.

It's also very good with the adaptive CC
