Upgrading Headunit to Columbus?

Featured Replies

It looks like the unit may have been partly jail-broken, but it hasn't been done properly (otherwise it wouldn't report as Component Protection).  I'm only going from your logs sadly.

Please clear your logs and report again - and if CP reappears, you know you need to speak to the guy who setup the unit for you.  The trouble is that if the MIB unit gets a sniff that it is in the wrong location/unit or it hasn't been properly jail-broken, CP will cause unpredictable results with the whole unit.

  • Yes, that’s a MIB1 Bolero so you’ll need a radio unit and screen from whichever MIB2 you want to upgrade to (I chose Amundsen with 8 inch Columbus screen and this is getting popular as it’s much cheap

  • 5E0035864A is the part number for a MIB1 Amundsen. You have bought a Columbus screen 5E0919606. These are not compatible components. The screen is just a screen, the MIB1 Amundsen runs 240x400 resolut

hi

I managed to solve this - first up - so the problem was a combination of wrong coding (the car the unit came off did not seem to have a sound system) and component protection in the amplifier

So the correct coding in the 5F unit was (by comparing the coding from the other car)

Uncheck everything in Byte 4 - Byte 7

byte 11 - select - 02 byte_11_Sound_System,Sound_System_external_MOST

byte 19 - Bit 5 (MOST_On) - needs to be checked

After doing this, the sound came on, but only the left side speakers were working

I had to remove the component protection from the amplifier - and now the sound is working as it should

Also, another thing I found out after comparing the coding of both cars, I made the mistake of marking 47-sound system as "Coded" in the gateway - this is not necessary - you can leave it "not coded" (or unchecked in the installation list) - as the amplifier is a slave module of the 5F unit

The 5F unit still has a component protection fault code - but I'm guessing that's due to it being a hacked unit - everything seems to work on it so far - so I'm not complaining.

Thanks for the inputs

Best Regards

Hi,

I have MiB1 Bolero with Canton and I would like an unit with carplay (Mib2 or Mib2,5) . Firstly I bought a mib2 amplifier 3q0035466A to replace mine. I know this amplifier works well with Mib2 unit but I dónt know if it works fine with Mib2,5 unit. Somebody knwos about this? I see other reference for a new mib2 amplifier 81A035223, and I don´t know the reason for the change, maybe to work with mib2,5?

This is important for my decision because I am doubting about buying admunsen mib2 with 8´screen or mib2,5 unit with 9,2 screen.

Thanks.

Best regards.
