Checking the brake fluid level

Featured Replies

Anyone else find it difficult to confirm the brake fluid level? If I look at the reservoir with a mk1 eyeball in normal light it tells me nothing - it looks empty. Shining a strong light on it indicates a level halfway between min and max - I hope - even then it isn't very clear. No low fluid light on the dash, so I've no reason to suspect a problem, but I wondered if anyone else has a similar issue?

No problems on my end. There is a very clear marker for both MIN and MAX levels.

When topping up, there is a small filter and you just need to ensure it is poured in slowly up to the marker on the MAX level.

But as noted, a torch does help to find the levels...

BriskodaJeff  yes agreed impossible to see by just looking with the hood up it needs a torch to see the fluid level, why on earth they dont make the container with a small clear sight patch between max and min I dont know, perhaps it is to prevent light degrading the fluid?

For reference; VAG Group Brake Fluid is a Class 6 Fluid and can be purchased in a 1L can quite cheaply...
