Brakes

Featured Replies

My Farther-in-law Superb which has done just over 8000m, has had a terrible juddering on the brakes since he picked it up just over two weeks ago,Took it to the dealers yesterday (JCB) so they could have a look, The head (tec) took it for a spin and agreed and has ordered new disc's and pads for it.

Should the disc's have worn that badly on an 18mth old car, or is as the tec said because it is an auto, people sit with there feet on the brakes for longer which warps the disc's:eek:

Probably a little too hot an exit at a slip road, and yes leaving the brakes on absorbing the heat.

My manual Superb is still on its original pads (and discs) at 20k. The VW auto vans we run chew pads and discs from between 7k to 16k with me driving.

However, expirience tells me that too hot an exit off the bypass up to the junction will warp the discs even at the first try;)

This was the subject of a post a few months ago. I ma not convinced by the sitting with your foot on the brake theory. If it is correct then that is a faukty design. Anyway I set with my foot on the brakes in my 2.5tdi tiptronic and the brakes are still OK at 25,000 miles.

Its the heat soak after a hefty braking run, not normal driving.
