Broken Fabia rear door lock?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone.

I am trying to fix the rear door with a stuck lock on a 2003 Skoda Fabia. If the inside handle is pulled, the lock button would go up like usual, but as soon as you would release the handle, it would go back down so the door can't be unlocked. I've already tried loosening the outside handle cable (which seems to be a common problem, I've added a picture of that particular part) and even pried the lever back but this did not help.

I don't know if this is important but both of the rear doors' central locking malfunctioned some time ago, but the other door can still be opened from the inside so I think there is some other mechanical issue with this one.

So far, I suspect something broke in the lock mechanism itself and the only way to open the door would be to break the lock. I am wondering if anyone has experience with that or any advice on how to do it. The car is on its last legs but I would still like to avoid cutting into the door or frame of the car.

Thanks for any replies.

A bit of an update:

After doing some more research about the lock specifically I decided to just smash it and try to get the door open by any means necessary. After I completely bashed out all of the electrics I tried to push the inside handle unlock lever with my fingers. With the motor gone, I heard a click that wasn't there before, so I started to repeatedly "lock" and "unlock" the door with my fingers.

After a few tries the door unlocked half way and after some more shaking and messing with the lock I finally managed to get the door open.

The mechanical side of the lock seems to be working now, so I am guessing something in the motorized section was preventing me from opening the door. The lock is still inside but I will take a closer look at it eventually.

Well done with getting the door open :)
