How to connect to Skoda Connect

Featured Replies

I have recently purchased a Karoq and am slowly working my way through all the facilities but have got stuck on Skoda Connect. I have registered with Skoda Connect and entered the relevant code but cannot access through the net, it displays "Unable to connect to the internet. Please check WLAN availability".

I can use my own WLAN in my garage but obviously as soon as I drive away the connection is lost. I cannot work out how to create a mobile hotspot with my iPhone, have gone back to the dealer but they cannot find an answer, so, any guidance would be gratefully received.

It seems once you have mobile data enabled and working you cannot enable WLAN (e.g. connect to home wifi) and vice versa

which stopped me exactly at the point you are now.

I found the easiest way with Columbus in my superb was to do a factory reset, somewhere in the settings menu, I think there is also a section where you can reset just the phone/internet settings..... That wipes out your stored mobiles and internet settings.....then add your mobile (via bluetooth) and allow (roaming?) data connection. I also have the extra sim slot that I set up for data. Make sure your car/phone/data is enabled, start up connect and enter the code.

Forget connecting to home Wifi, its of little use, even for updates.

In car hotspot, if you have that, has its own settings in the car setting section and piggy backs off the mobile connection.

Many thanks for quick reply, tried everything you suggested, phone reset, phone pairing via bluetooth but still get the same message "Unable to connect to the internet. Please check WLAN availability" when I try Skoda Connect, will have to keep badgering the dealer to find a solution.

Have you tried a complete factory reset?

You need to delete the WLAN connection setup to your home WiFi and disable WLAN  to get any further.

Completed a complete factory reset and now everything works perfectly, thanks for your guidance, saved a lot of head scratching, can go back to the dealer and tell them how to proceed!!

Spoke too soon, next time I used Skoda Connect it displayed the same old message  "Unable to connect to the internet. Please check WLAN availability". Have spent the last few days trying to configure Skoda Connect but to no avail.

I cannot find step by step instructions on how to connect via an iPhone, is this in fact possible, how gone back to the dealer, they have no idea, allegedly contacting Skoda for an answer, so much for "KAROQ is the most digital model in the brand history".

If anybody out there has any further guidance I would be very grateful.

I wonder if you have created a mobile hotspot on your phone? If this is not on, then the Infotainment cannot find the alternative WLAN which should show in addition to your home unit. Once this shows you should be able to connect to it.

Connecting to WLAN is a bit fiddly, and to be honest it's a bit pointless connecting to your house wi-fi, as once you're out of range of your house it obviously looses the connection. I've swapped my connection to my iPhone, which is a bit more usable, by doing the following steps:

Start engine - screen will show a red globe/white car - go to the 2nd page (settings) - WLAN settings - network key

You then enter the network key from your iPhone by doing the following:

On your iPhone - Settings - Personal Hotspot - Enable P.H. - this will then show you your password (a series of letters/numbers - enter this code/password into your car screen, as above.

If all is well, after a few seconds, the letters WLAN, and the globe/car should both be white. You should then be able to access the Skoda Connect screen and its functions.

Works for me, but not sure it's worth renewing the subscription fee next time around.

Just to add, once you've managed a WLAN connection from your phone, it's easy to toggle between your home WLAN and your phone if required, as cr1100 has mentioned above.

Many thanks to cr1100 and westie38 for your replies but still no connection. If I go through each step perhaps someone can spot my mistake. I turn on my Columbus Infotainment and it displays the grid display of Radio, Media, etc. (sows white car/red globe). I then swipe to' Settings' and select 'WLAN' which then displays  'WLAN' and 'Mobile Hotspot'.

I select 'WLAN' which then finds all available networks (including my home and neighbours) but does not find my iPhone (which has a Personal Hotspot set up and is in the car). I select "Mobile Hotspot' which shows 'Mobile Hotspot' (ticked) and 'Hotspot (WLAN) settings' which when selected displays 'Network Key + SSID + 'Do not send network name (SSID) + 'Security level' WPA2. Entered Network Key from my iPhone Personal Hotspot and pressed 'Store'. Still shows red globe and displays  "Unable to connect to the internet. Please check WLAN availability" when I try Skoda Connect.

Hi FrintonFogey, I've just been out to my car to check again and it seem you're doing all the right things, but when I connected to Skoda connect again (through my phone hotspot) it took ages for the grid display tiles to load up - in fact the 'Parking' tile did not show at all, but its title name underneath did. It may take quite a while for it to fire up, just as when I switch off my iPhone hotspot, the SKODA Connect still works for a while before it detects it doesn't have a WLAN source. The 'loading' display went on for ages, then all the tile pictures disappeared leaving the title names only! This could of course could just be a loading glitch, but a PITA nevertheless.

Just to check a couple of other things - when you go into SKODA Connect (online services) - Services Management, do you have Private Mode unchecked, with Infotainment Online & Car Connect checked? When I picked up my car last February I'd already set up SKODA Connect from home (I had the VIN number and a registration key), but set the Private Mode to ON, then took I it off upon collection.

Also, under Registration, does it have your name as the Main User?

Sorry if this doesn't get you any further, but for whatever reason, even my SKODA Connect isn't working as sharp as it did yesterday! It's an over complicated system (gimmick) for what it gives the user, certainly not user friendly, as if it's still in its development/BETA stage.

SKODA Simply 'Not So' Clever.

Hi Westie38    Many thanks for your reply, after reading your experiences I drove to an area where I know there is a strong 4G signal as where I live it's poor. Skoda Connect actually connected and after a very long 'loading' period everything displayed and I could finally find all the cheap petrol and parking spaces!

My connection problem appears to be based on a poor phone signal, as long as I know I can compensate for, hope Skoda Connect is worth all the aggravation, still, the Karoq is an excellent car.

Brilliant, glad you got a good result. Agreed, it's still an excellent car!
