Rear Brake Discs (vented or solid)

Featured Replies

Im replacing my 65 plate 2.0 TDI (56k miles) rear brake pads and discs and entered my reg details on the Euro Car Parts. I chose the Pagid from the 3 results that appeared, collected them next day and arranged with a local garage to fit them for me while i waited.

I was surprised when the mechanic called me over and said the new discs were not compatible as they were 'double disc vented' and the ones coming off were 'single solid' and that they dont fit correctly.

Can anyone confirm whether all mk3 Superbs rear discs are supposed to be the solid variety and if so, why are ECP listing the vented ones with no mention of the solids? I must confess to not even knowing upto this point about vented/solid discs.

I will call into ECP in the morning and see what they say but just wondered whether anyone else had encountered this.

My new 1.4tsi SEL has 12mm solid rear discs and they are listed on ECP.

I entered your details, plenty of solid rear discs listed.

Ecp will replace them provided they are in resalable condition.

ECP's parts look-up by registration plate is hit and miss, to put it generously.

I have a 280 4x4 and the rear discs are vented, I thought that these were only fitted to the 280's, but may be wrong.

I have a 280 and I agree with @philsmith, only the 280 has vented rear discs as its the same set up as a Golf R with the same caliper.

None of the others have the same set up including the 190TDi and the 220 TSi.

Entering the cars details manually on the ECP site brings a much more comprehensive list of both solid and vented discs than just entering the reg number. Ended up with Bosch discs (Pagid were out of stock) and Pagid pads for a combined price of £74.

:D 100% this! I needed new front discs for my wife's Suzuki Swift Sport. The website listed loads of incorrect diameter and wrong number of studs. Got there in the end with their one correct offering! Cracking price for discs and pads though

Everything over 150ps up to and including 220ps get 312mm at the front (vented) and 300mm at the rear (solid).   The 280 gets 340mm at the front and 310mm at the rear (both vented)

Over 150?  So what about the 150ps tsi and TDI?

Pretty please......:hi:

Sorry, including and over 150ps that should be.

My 206TSI has 340mm at the front and 310mm at the rear (both are vented).

Very solid feel to the brakes too!
