Problems connecting phone to console

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2010 Superb and it seems to be missing the functionality to connect a phone. The console does not have much in the way of menu items relating to the phone so I suspect it does not have it. I have had conflicting information from Skoda with the helpdesk saying it needed a cradle and the garage saying it did not do it at all. Is there a 3rd party solution for this which is not too expensive?  I see there is some information about this on the forum but it all seems rather problematical.

Cheers,

   Andrew

The very simple way to check: if your unit has a PHONE button (you're not mentioning whether or not you have a radio or the navigation unit), if you press the phone button, does it mute the sound or not? If it mutes the sound, 95% there is no phone module connected to the head unit, 5% that the phone module is malfunctioning or deliberately unplugged/disabled.

Thanks for your help V Borovic. The console does have the radio and satnav. If the radio is on and I press the phone button then the radio keeps playing and it just says "No user connected" at the top. I do have bluetooth turned on on the phone but there doesn't seem to be any way of getting the consule to connect to it.

The maxidot does not have any phone options in the setup which someone said was the way to do it. It rather looks like the car doesn't do it,. However, why have the radio button and have it saying it is not connected and not just say "no phone functionality". I just wonder if there is a way to have a physical connection with the phone maybe and this is where the add on module comes in? EIther the helpdesk or the garage are wrong, but which one?

Which phone do you have? If it is an iPhone, they're known to have issues with BT connectivity ... one other simple check if you have the phone bluetooth module or now - it should be located under the passenger seat, something like this:

There is this thing under the driver's seat which is probably OK for a UK RHD car. Is this it? I don't have any of the phone options in the maxidot so, at best there is something missing or not connected. I have android phone but am nowhere near even trying to connect it. It is not that it won't connect there is no way to attempt it. Thanks for your help.image.thumb.png.7acd9d64bfdd6ff4fe29af0d03bb7cb3.png

Yep, that's the BT module, in the upper right corner you can faintly see the letters "nov" (Novero, brand), a wild guess would be that it is a part.no. 3C8-035-730-A (your car being made in '10). You could try to reboot the device, although it probably won't help much ... it would be great if you had access to some diag equipment (VCDS at least), so you can read what the system is telling you (but isn't clearly showing you)

The maxidot does not have the Phone option as in the other thread, see below so I am missing some functionality..

Not impossible that the BT module is psychically disconnected, try to reconnect the connector under the seat, or, that it was disabled using the diagnostic software ... has it ever worked (if you're the first owner of the car)?

It is 8 years old and I have only just got it so it is fair to assume it has not worked. I will see if there is something obvious like a wire disconnected. I  may need to find a third party independent who understands how this SKoda electronics works. I don't have much faith in the main dealer based on this morning's conversation with them. I am afraid VCDS is somewhat beyond me.

It is what technicians use to diagnose VAG cars (Skoda being within the group), the better option (the best actually) would be to use ODIS (it is what the dealerships and certified garages actually use)

I have made some progress. I followed these instructions on youtube.

to reboot the bluetooth module. I now find that if I go to the maxidot immediately the ignition is switched on I get the phone option. I dissapears after a few seconds if I don't access it mind. There is a connection option and if I select that it says connecting to Alan's phone. I assume the previous owner. There is a search for mobiles option although this searches and then says it can't find paired phone a phone. Nothing new under phone on the console. Not quite sure what to try next but seems hopeful

After more faffing about I have got the car to find the phone, Nexus 4. It then says the Nexus 4 is not compatible. Not sure why as this was an android made by google. Seems some more expensive gizmos are required based on this,.
