Mirrorlink Issues

Featured Replies

I have bought a Fabia 1.2 TSI 2015 reg car on PCP.

The vehicle has Mirror link system, I have tried and failed to link an I phone to it so I can use my mapping.

I have since read that there are issues with Mirror link and I phones.

I took the car back as I have tried several android phones and with no luck, Skoda said they had managed to link an android phone to it.

Has anyone got a similar car and experienced this issue.

What Samsung phone will work, I just want the mapping?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have Smartlink in your car too? You'd be better off using that if you have it instead.

Yes iPhones are not compatible with MirrorLink. You can check all compatible phones here

Android auto and Waze seems to be the only free maps thing we can get to work in our 2016 mk3

If your car has only MirrorLink, then you'll need a MirrorLink compatible phone. Not all Android phones are. I know the Samsung S7 Edge is compatible, as I had one and it worked with MirrorLink.

If you have a car with SmartLink, then you will need to install the Android Auto app from the Play Store. Most Android phones running a vaguely recent build of Android are compatible, although certain Huawei phones are not.

A 2015 registered car could be either a MY15 or a MY16 car. If it's a completely bog-standard SE, then the MY16 cars have a multi-function steering wheel, alongside SmartLink. The MY15 cars are not compatible with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

More info on apps and compatible phones for MirrorLink is available on their website. Google Maps is not compatible with MirrorLink, unfortunately.

I have a Fabia 1.2 TSI SEL which was registered in April 2015 Skoda made a big fanfare of how Mirrorlink would allow you to link your Android phone via a usb cable and buy using a mapping app have a working satnav. What they forgot to mention was that there were very few phones that could run Mirrorlink at that time and you had to have Skodas approved Sygic Car Navigation which cost £75

The Android phone I had at that time would not run Mirrorlink and about a year after I bought the car I changed my phone to a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini model GT-i9195 which by chance works with Mirrorlink but it has to be the exact model number and I got the Sygic UK Map it does work as a satnav but the link from phone to car can  take a couple of goes to get the phone to link Joe

PS it works best with the cable that came with the phone

Sygic is really good works freely in my MK2 android stereo just off gps, but the phone version with android auto in the MK3 is £75, we had it free for a month, so now we are stuck with waze

@tompiper you can turn off the voice announcements in Waze, or set it to alerts only. The same goes for Google Maps. I only have them on when I don't know the area at all.

I have Android Auto & is total ****e. Waze option keeps bawling out instructions every other second it does my bloody head in. I have bought a Garmin and have Here We Go maps on my phone, much much better.

I'm the opposite (although never used Waze). I use Android Auto via Smartlink and find it great. I think its a good step forward that we can cut out the middle-man!

I love that I can bypass the manufacturer and not have to buy their propitiatory sat-nav solution or have to buy a 3rd party Sat Nav only device and pay for maps every year.

Well, I've given up!

Skoda web site suggests an android phone on the compatibility web site,  vin number, radio then pick your phone.

The site suggests Samsung A3 2017, so I double checked and all good.

Went to Argos this morning and bought said phone.

£180 lighter, phone will not work with Android Auto or Waze mapping.

Think I've been sold an illusion, the car may have to go back "under sales of goods act".

Well and truly gutted so thanks again Skoda......

The OPs car, like Joe Peddos' car, is a pre-week-22, 2015 build. They had Mirrorlink only. So, no Android Auto, or Apple Carplay.

If you look back at posts about this, in 2015, there was a lot of angry owners then. Some managed to do  a deal for a Kenwood unit to go behind the Bolero, to give Nav. (Just nav, no phone connectivity). Others (like @JoePeddos above) found a phone to work with Mirrorlink.

They sorted it with Smartlink (AndroidAuto & Apple CarPlay) for the MY16 cars at build week 22.

My car was build week 23 - I would have ordered if I knew it was sorted. Anyhow, it looks like VW went with Mirrorlink too quickly - and the Mirrorlink people did promise, as I recall, to debug the system. They didn't.

Be interested to see how your dealer responds @cribbs. Hope they have a sympathetic ear. Maybe offer you a later car?

Your Samsung should work with MirrorLink. MirrorLink and Android Auto are NOT the same thing. As I said before, go to the MirrorLink website and see the app options there.

I had mirrorlink activated in my Skoda Yeti (2015) on Friday.... my phone is a Samsung S9. The only apps you can use with mirrorlink are the approved ones that they have listed on their website... Android Auto is not one of them and as previously said it will only work with smartlink. I am using the rockscout app for spotify and sygic car navigation app for sat nav. I had to also install Samsung car mode app which does mirror my phone screen to the bolero head unit, this allows you to read messages etc...  The mirrorlink activation was £134 all in at a main Skoda dealer. The sygic car navigation app with car connectivity and lifetime maps for europe is £67, i purchased the european maps for £12.99 then added the car connectivity on the next day for £30.49 which worked out a lot cheaper than buying the all in package.

Theoretically its good, that is granted. All the faffing about setting it up each time you get in the car is a nightmare. Although I do like having nav on the screen. Sometimes Google Maps goes into one and does its own thing. It's high time Google sorted it out.

What faffing about are you having to do? I just plug in the USB, hit the 'Media' button on radio and then it just loads up (takes 10-15 sec usually).

Agree with you on Google maps though - still does strange things from time to time but I guess that's the app rather than Smartlink

I plugged my phone in to a Spanish Citroen and both the phone and car opened up the Smartlink/Android Auto bits.

Then using a map of Spain I had downloaded, in the UK on to the phone, I navigated around no problem.

This was also with data turned off so no roaming charges.

It also helps if you have a new version of Andriod on the phone.

What version are you using?

Thanks AG Falco
