Diesel gauge

Featured Replies

Hi everyone. New to the site and thanks for the add. I have an 08 octavia estate and the diesel gauge only tells the truth when it feels like it. I've put a new sender unit it but hasn't made much of a difference. The other day it decided to drop all the way to zero... No light though and stayed there. After I had turned the ignition off and back on it came back up again. Other times it'll drop like a stone then go back up, albeit slowly. Any ideas what to try next?

Could be a loose/corroded wire, or possibly a canbus fault? IF it was an old Ford Capri then the answer is the voltage regulator on the back of the dash..... but that doesnt really help here :D

I had the thought that maybe it was along the lines of something to do with ecu etc? I'll try to trace it as far as I can but think it might be a bit of a needle in a haystack?! It's just so random. Just wondered if there was any common faults or something easy to check first.... If not what would people's recommendations be??

If you could connect to any diagnostics like VCDS it could possibly provide you info for more details ..

error records are stored and can not be seen if not diagnosed.

I'll check when I get home.. I have a diagnostic app on my phone for my l200. Its using torque Pro but not sure of this would work... Will also depend on the connection for the Bluetooth module. Failing that it's in for a Mot next week so could ask the garage for a diagnostic??

Believe the app could not be of help.....but not lose anyhting if try out.

Upon the MOT , you could ask for a quick reading  but they may ask bit of charge if not bother...

@Pottsygsxr - Do you have a trip computer? If so, does that consistently tell reasonable values in "available range" mode?

I've plugged my diagnostic in and that comes up with no faults... Not sure what you mean in '' available range '' mode??

Available range means with the remaining fuel in tank how many miles/km does the computer suggest that can drive the car.

Doesn't have a trip computer... It's an 08 plate.

Sounds like it could be an issue with the cluster rather than the fuel sender itself. If you found somebody with VCDS to do some output tests on the indicator you might be able to pin point it to that.

Did have the thought it could be that.. I'll ask the garage of they have any means of testing it.

Specifications are trim level specific, not age.
