Replacement locking nut (NOT unlocking key)

Featured Replies

Ok, so short story is, I purchased a spare wheel / tyre and jack etc. for the car due to continental use loaded heavy so didn't want to rely on repair goo...... Took the polystyrene insert out of the car to fit the spare in and forgot to put the unlocking key in the car. 1 flat tyre in France, a force removed bolt and now I have one locking nut missing from the car.....

Is it possible to get 1 single nut to match the rest of the set  (and existing unlocking 'key') and if so where from, would Skoda direct be my best bet?

I'm toying with removing the rest of the locking nuts, really not sure it is worth having them on for the horror stories of broken keys / removal / etc.......... But, want options other than buying a full new set of locking nuts (as let's be honest, they are not much of a deterrent anyway so not worth spending much on)

Cheers

When one played up on my Octy 2 high miler. I have 3 locknuts and one replacement plain bolt now. Don't think my wheels are worth stealing. But then again a great loss just missing one.  I made my choice.

I think it is impossible. You could order the complete matching nut set from Skoda though (based on the car's VIN)

They’re McGard locking nuts so probably cheaper to buy another set off eBay or Amazon

Scratch probably - definitely ... :D

Just a quick look and £30 for a set

I just removed all my locking wheel  bolts and replaced them with ordinary wheel bolts.

I don't see many cars around here up on bricks with the wheels missing.

I did buy four grey wheel bolt covers as well though as on my car the locking ones don't fit, to big and round.

That may be as they all have locking nuts :D

Will maybe give up on the idea of a replacement single bolt, will leave the other 3 until a wheel needs to come off then it will be replaced with a normal nut I think

Cheers all

Believe me that you can remove the locking nut with the right set of tools within seconds (much like you can remove a regular nut) ... the locking nuts were designed with a good idea in mind, but as soon as they were designed, the "away" team designed the solution for those ... the road assistance crew have them i.e., and so do the thieves ... if your wheels will be targeted, you can put a chain around them to protect them, and they will still be missing (including the chain)

vborovic - yep well aware of the ease of which they can be removed (unless you're in the middle of France on a Saturday afternoon and they spend 3 hours trying to chisel out the nut!) the above comment was just a joke :)

However, it's like most things, some deterrent is better than none..... Oh look, locking nuts on this one, I'll move on to the next car (like house alarms, that one doesn't seem to have an alarm, we'll start there).

For a regular Joe, sure ... but for those who want a specific wheel set or bust a specific house, you can have the SWAT team next to those, and it may not be enough ... :D

haha, yeah agreed..... else they break in to the car for the key, or just take the car.....
