Columbus infotainment fault

Featured Replies

Started car this morning, plugged iPhone into USB but it went a bit wonky. It’s hapoened before on occasion so I did the usual trick of a long press on the on/off button to reset it. Still no joy, and now if I press Nav I just get this message:

I can’t load the Nav data from the card.

If I press the phone button it now just says “phone unavailable”. If I press the voice command button it says I need the feature unlocked. If I manually select mirror link it says that has to be unlocked too.

Radio still works, that’s about all! Endless attempts at resetting, loading the Nav database etc. No relevant fault codes on VCDS.

Hmmm, a bit annoying and worrying - although fortunately the car is still in warranty. Anyone seen this? I’m wondering if it is a hardware fault or just some software crash that has managed to wipe its memory. I’m going to be struggling to have the time to get the car into the dealer in the next couple of weeks

The only other thing to try is take the battery off for 20mins.  You will get a sea of warning lights when you reconnect it, but they clear once you start the car and drive it a short distance.  Given this isn’t the first time it could either be the unit has gone down or the SSD storage drive holding various parts of the system and nav data has glitched - either of which is a dealer fix required unfortunately.

Yes I think it has to be a dealer visit. I am away/busy etc until 22nd so that’s when it’s now booked in. Pity, I will have to survive 3 weeks without the gadgets!

Update:

Took to dealers yesterday. They gave me a loan car and said “it could take a few days”. However at lunchtime I got a call to ask about the Racechip throttle response (probably should have taken it out!) and the rear camera which was fitted by the selling dealer 2 years ago. I was getting a bit worried that they might blame it on the Racechip (which would of course be ridiculous.

But by mid afternoon I got a call to say that the problem was simply that the memory was wiped, installation/activation codes lost. However “not covered under warranty” and it would be £54. Not a lot of money, but a lot of principle! So I argued and they said “OK, free as a goodwill gesture”.

I spoke to the technician and asked why it might have happened. I think he thought I had been in there with VCDS and caused the problem but in fact I haven’t changed anything on the car for a year or so. This is perhaps why they felt it wasn’t a warranty job.

All fixed now but I do wonder why it happened and since we don’t know why, there seems no reason why it wouldn’t happen again, slightly worrying. I do have an intermittent “CANBus in 1 wire mode” fault which could possibly be something to do with it.

Anyway, I’m happy that all my gadgets are working again!
