Auto dimming rear mirror

Featured Replies

After my old Octavia was destroyed by a truck driver, I just took delivery of the replacement. It says it has an auto dimming rear mirror. I always thought these thing had visible sensors? From the front this just look like a standard mirror. It is quite thick though which might indicate internal electronics. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I just want to be sure I haven't been duped. Or is there a simple way to test the functionality?

Cheers

Mine has two little holes beneath the mirror if that helps?

No controls or indication on the Interior Dimming Mirror.

Quick Search found this.

The wife had a Fabia 3 SE-L  with an auto dim rear mirror. No visible sensors there in the glass

It's not in the glass. It's on the back of the mirror.

Very simple answer. Any 'normal' mirror has a rocker type tab on the bottom of the mirror so the driver can manually dim the mirror in one easy action.  If there's no rocker type tab on the mirror then it's automatic.

Auto dipping mirrors come in various forms - light sensors can be on front of the glass, behind the glass or in the glass itself.

That's a very good point. I didn't even think of that. The mirror has no rocker. So it must be auto dimming.

The pre-FL cars have a physical button on the bottom of the Mirror to enable or disable auto-dimming.

There is an ambient light sensor on the back of the Mirror & a light sensor in the small hole next to the green "active" LED in the middle of the Mirror.

From reading the other thread, the FL Mirror is quite different in design.
