Creaky noise on brakes while stopping!

Featured Replies

Hello BriSkoda Family,

I own a 2014 1.6 TDI Manual Octavia, it has 117.000 kilometers on it currently, and got a creaky noise on brakes for a very long time, there is no problem at all on brakes, the car stops very well, but that noise very annoys me. The noise only happens when the car is about to stop, speed below than 10-15 km/h. There is no noise in reverse stopping.

So I wanted to open a thread in order to ask what this creaky noise is about.

Having this noise for about a year, went to authorized service of dealer 2 or 3 times, they did something to brakes and the noise was gone, but after few days it started again and again, currently the service says my front brake disks have to be replaced.

The first vid is from Octavia, not my car, found on youtube.

The video in below is from Seat Leon, platfrom brothers, it has exactly same noise.

So I am asking, any of you have had this problem?

If yes, how did you manage to solve it?

Thanks in advance :)

I alsohave problem when brake at low speed i hear from every wheel like it would click.

i did not yet search it ,but i think it s the problem on too much free play on brake shoe.

iam working on mazda service and some of mazda 6 is also the same sound and they have recal for that for changing brake choe-(this piece where is the brake piston) it gets too much free-play on two pistons where the cilinder is moving.

Thanks for your reply. It seems like no one is having this issue other than us :)

I hope it is a shoe as you have said, otherwise I am afraid that it would be a bit expensive to change brake disks or callipers.

Try to dissasemble brakes and put some stiff grease in the 2 pieces that shoe moves. I think youll be good for some time.

There is no grease on the piston/caliper to pad backing plate contact patches….or the "ears" of the pad which the pad slide on in the bracket grooves

None from the factory & the VAG service books only talk about the fronts when doing servicing...& nothing about the rears...

Basically get either a good quality copper grease..or splash out for Loctite LB8009 (also known as just heavy duty)..its way better than these new ceramic brake grease..I had the Mintex "ceratech" fail on me & bake on..causing more sticking...the Loctite is long term high temp to 1300C...stainless steel safe (pad spring clips), high wash out resitance..& high chemical resistance...& no metals..so won't affect the ABS sensors..

Unfortunately its a 250g tub is the smallest at cira £22....

Thanks for your reply, I've looked for loctite and yes it's a bit expensive, 450g tub is 500 turkish liras, which is equal to approximately 60-65 £.

I will also try asking to some reliable and known (non authorized) VAG services in my area. Hoping that the solution will be slightly cheaper than this :)

Then get some good quality copper grease …..

Hello, has anyone finally solved described issue? I have the same problem as in attached video,  it looks that it is not a brake calliper because it works silent when I am using brakes when car is already stopped.
