VCDS wont work after updating.

Featured Replies

I hate computers and they seem to hate me more, have only had VCDS (bought from Gendan) for a couple of weeks, used it twice and it just completely bemused me with hexadecimal coding, short coding, long coding, adapatation, did not have a clue what was going on but that was just me, at least the program and interface worked.

Or that is until it decided to upgrade itself to the latest revision and would not take no for an answer, I had an awfull sinking feeling that it was going to end up with my usual computer woes and it has.

When I connect to the vehicle it asks me to do a port test, it says interface found but then wont work without a firmware update, the utility opens, I have no idea what I am supposed to do so click on "check for updates" and it keeps saying "unable to contact server" and "TCP port 1100 fail" I had a wi-fi signal to my router but I also took the computer and interface indoors and connected via ethernet cable and got the same results.

I dont know what it is doing, I dont know what it wants me to do, I cant seem to do it and it wont work, can anyone tell me what the **** is going on please?  In simple terms though, you are talking to a computer numpty to whom this kind of **** happens to all the time.

I had rather hoped that VCDS would do what it said on the tin and not be capricious.

Ross-Tech have had some server problems, so worth re-trying.

Just as Dave mentioned, they've had a few problems with their servers.

All you can really do is keep trying. Might be worth dropping them an email too.

I certainly don't think you're doing anything wrong :-)

Wow, amazing fast responses, its bouyed me up to know that I am not doing anything wrong.

Why do upgrades always cause such grief?

They are normally pretty smooth with VCDS. Mine had no issues a few days ago when I updated...

Not that it helps you at the moment ;-)

Not that it helps but I only updated mine this morning but it all went flawlessly.

I tried again and it worked, been outside playing around to learn whats what or would have said so earlier, thanks for the rapid and supportive responses, will start a thread soon about coding, what are short and long codes, adaptation and the differences between them etc once I get my head around what I have learned and what I am yet to understand.

Before you start coding, make sure you have saved a complete Autoscan for your car and check it has actually saved on the laptop.

Do not just set or remove ticks in VCDS just because you think you might like the function.

A timely warning, I had got to that stage and it was tempting! My natural instinct is to play around and see what happens

I had saved, or so I thought, and printed the first auto-scan, now I cannot find it anywhere on the computer, not unusual as often when I click on save or download there is just a blink and I have no idea if the file has been saved or in what directory.

I did not change the standard Ross-Tech VCDS so where should auto-scans have been saved please?

C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS\Logs is standard.

I'd also suggest you take adaption maps to go with the autoscan :)
