Power Magic doing it's job, but is my battery duff?

Featured Replies

I collected my new Octy on 17th September and finally managed to fit my dash cam - Blackvue 750 2 channel and Power Magic Pro Friday just gone. (thanks to all the write ups on here )

Parking mode worked perfectly at first, then stopped. After some investigation, it turns out the Power Magic is doing it's job, I've got it set at 12.5V cut off and time set to infinity.

with the ignition off, I've got 12.1V at the battery and 12.1V at the Power Magic. At tickover 13.V at the battery and Power Magic.

The first two weeks of ownership I was commuting 50 miles a day, then for the last week it's just been sat on the drive then on Friday the doors, boot etc where open whilst fitting the dash cam.

I thought car batteries were 12.7 volts when fully charged, do I simply need to take it for a 'good run'?

What do you lot have your Power Magic's set to?

One last thing, I've now mastered re-fitting the glove box, but re-fitting the tailgate trim was a complete nightmare

I don't think anything about working on the tailgate trims on VW Group cars is likely to be otherwise, put it this way, I'd never ever consider removing one unless it was unavoidable!   I've worked on 2 types, an early 2002 Ibiza 6K and a 2002 Polo 9N - horrible, sore hands and broken bits!

I thought it was 13.8V?

No used to be maximum charging voltage, more like 13.4V though.

Modern cars have smart charging so you can end up stopping the car without the battery being fully charged.
