Feeling all of the bumps in the road

Featured Replies

I have a 2010 Diesel Roomster with 83K miles.
Lately, I can really feel every bump in the road and wondering what is most likely to be the cause?
Tyre pressures are ok. The car has been used to carry some heavy  exhibition stands for a few years though.

Thanks

Could be worn or defective components such as shock absorbers, springs, etc.  If it's being carrying heavy loads then it's likely had a harder life than most with the equivalent mileage and the suspension would have took the brunt of it.

Get it checked.  Some local tyre fitters may carry out a free suspension/brake check...

What are the tyre pressures at, and what tyres are fitted / side, are they XL / reinforced sidewall?

The suspension / springs / dampers might be just a bit gubbed.   Are the 4 springs all good, have you checked?

You can do a quick check of the shock absorbers yourself

Stand at corner of car and press down and release, does it come back smoothly and quickly stop, or is it swingy and bouncy

Repeat for other 3 corners.

If uneven then you have a worn (or broken) spring or dampers

If you are no longer carrying heavy loads then drop the tyre pressures to their lower setting (think the pressures are on sticker in fuel cap flap)

Thanks for the replies.
I've managed to get it into a garage today and they can't find anything wrong with it at all.
The tyres are all at 29, as mentioned in the book. The tyres are a mix so maybe when they need changing I might look at some better ones.

29 PSI / 2 bar (almost)  sounds low to me.  Others can comment.

Is that what it shows in the fuel filler flap for your car / tyre size?

What does it say Bar or kPa ?
