Smoke and loud sceeching coming from air con compressor

Featured Replies

I replaced the air compressor (brand new) in august. It had been working fine when the climatronic is set to low. I was driving to work today with it set to 25 and all of a sudden the car starts to lose power and smoke is coming from underneath with a loud screeching sound I stopped the car and gave it 10 minutes before starting again where I was able to drive on into work with no issues. When I went to drive home from work I turned on the air conditioning and car started loosing power and the same screeching sound was being made. Now the compressor doesn't kick in when turned on.

Any ideas?

Seized AC compressor? Smoke and screeching from the drive belt?

Yeah I think so, compressor need replacing?

If the compressor has seized, I'm afraid that is almost certainly the case - was the compressor fitted by an AC engineer and was the system recharged with the correct gas / oil charge?

Yes to all, have the invoice for the compressor and still has 10 months of warranty on it.

Back to the man who fitted it to have a "chat" then...
