Warranty question/frustration

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Fabia 3 year warranty period expires tomorrow. I noticed last night that the right cornering fog has started only working on an intermittent basis ! I called my local Skoda garage today to ask them what I can do, and they basically said they can do nothing whatsoever because of the timing (ie them being closed tomorrow and that my warranty will be over by Monday). Therefore, are they suggesting that my warranty only ever covered me when the garage is open?

Right now, I have a faulty issue on my car, it's *JUST* within it's warranty, but because they can't get me in immediately (which is fair enough), they won't honour any repairs anymore and said I'd be subject to full charges.

Any ideas, or is this just the way that it is?

Thanks

Phone them and tell them to register your fault as a warranty complaint as of today. If you can record the phone call that is better. Better still, go in today, make the warranty appointment and ask for written confirmation of your complaint, signed and dated TODAY.

Name and shame the dealer, they should know better.

They closed at 12.30 :-( I have Tweeted them and Facebooked them to try and make it more social. But it seems HUGELY unfair given that I have a fault today, and it's in warranty today, but due to their operational hours I can't have it sorted within good time. That isn't a fault of my doing - and I think they should honour it. I might have to talk to the manager on Monday.

This was Blade Skoda Bristol - up to which point they have been a very good dealer. My family have bought 3 cars with them in the last few years and I intend to buy more, but won't if they are going to be draconian with their customer service.

Well at least you tweeted and facebooked them which has date stamp.

If they say no on Monday, contact Skoda UK customer service to complain.

Yea it's the only thing I could think of. It's only an intermittent fog light issue, but it's definitely principle in this case.

Well, legally speaking, you have reported the issue within the warranty period.

I'm a little dubious whether Skoda would cover the fog light under warranty anyway - it sounds like the bulb needs replacing, which are usually specifically excluded from warranties (around my way the are anyway).

^^^ If that was the case then maybe the Dealer would want 30 minutes labour and the cost of a bulb.

Expensive, or maybe they would be kind and just charge for the bulb.   Keep a customer happy!,  they spent thousands buying a Skoda.

If the cornering function is faulty it might well be covered and not in the 6,500 miles / 6 month exclusions, wear and tear.

Well, finally it's been sorted all at Skoda's expense. A bit of social media and convos over the phone I got it in for some free diags.

I knew it wasn't the bulb, that was the first thing I checked! They found an error in the cars log with one of the switches and ended up replacing the Indicator Headlight Wiper Stalks as "goodwill". Which is good because the repair cost was just south of £400! It now works every time thank goodness. Happy with Skoda again.

Its not goodwill, its warranty and you reported the fault within the warranty period. They are trying to make themselves look good by saying it is goodwill.

These combo switches seem to be causing trouble for many Polo/Ibiza/Fabia for this version!

Edit:- I went through that problem with my wife's Ford Fiesta bought nearly new in 1989 I think, all rear lights stopped working, but all front lights and indicators were okay, a bit dangerous if she did not notice it, that was at 3 years, I bought and fitted a new combo switch from Ford, it failed for same reason at 1 year and 1 day, I had to resort to sending "recorded delivery" letters to Ford UK head office with snide comments like "bits of tin and bits of board make a Ford" and FORD = Fix Or Replace Daily, that changed their initial stance and I got a refund for 2 switches!

I couldn't agree more, that's why I put it in inverted commas! I was going to have it repaired under warranty whatever they said about it, because my warranty simply doesn't apply just when the garage is open (despite the opinion of the lady at the service desk!)

I hope the replacement is a newer revision...but I'll only find out in time I guess.

VW Group do tend to flush “suspect” versions of parts out of their stock, so that means you would need to have bought NOS from eBay to get another duff one - and as maybe these bits have been flying off the parts shelves, the duffers or “bad batches” should have gone.
