This is not for me, but for my parents who drive a 2010 1.2 TSi and have around 35,000 miles on the clock. They are worried that they may have bought a lemon as when they bought it had a leaking injector and my parents are concerned that the cam chain could go at any time but we don't know where the best garages are that replace these other than the Skoda dealer about 15 miles away. Does anyone know of an independent that could change a cam chain in the South East, preferably close to Hastings?

If its not rattling loudly on start up (usually cold starts after being stood over night) then probably best to not touch, just change oil regularly no more than 10k/1year , more often is better.

 

On the other hand if it does make painful rattles regularly, then get it changed, but make sure only the latest revision kit is used. (Search forum for details)

 

Don't confuse with ticking noise at idle which is normal from the high pressure fuel pump (big hex bolted thing on top of engine with stainless steel piping attached.) The rattle is much louder.

 

The kit is not that expensive but probably a days labour to fit, with covers and sump need removing and liquid gasket to refit. Not a job most independents would be familiar with.
