Recently took mine out to do the same but found the PCB was destroyed.

RH wheelarch, you need to remove the liner (very easy) then two 10mm nuts IIRC, the casing can be bent out of the way allowing the unit to be released without drilling out the pop rivet.

If you put back the shield without the alarm unit you will probably be bugged with a low rev harmonic vibration like I am suffering, at least I hope thats what it is, it happened immediately afterwards.

You and I will probably have to replace the cell pack in our E bay purchases, thats is they havn't leaked and done for the PCB, it seems a wise precaution as a SH unit will fail soon, I could not find a 200mah cell pack, I think they were custom made but there are plenty of pin compatible 150mah ones available, it will probably work with the cell pack removed, remains to be seen, if it does then it wont fail again!

There is only one Right Hand side to a vehicle which is why I avoided using drivers or passengers side as that will change according to whether the vehicle is LHD or RHD.

To avoid any further confusion, Right Hand means looking forward from the seated position in either the drivers or passengers seat and not looking at the vehicle from the front.

Hi JR do you have a picture of the old unit you took out so i can confirm the part number as im hopping its for the same car that i have which is a Octavia Est 1400 2011.  the one i got of ebay is saying its for a VW Passatt.  if you can email the pic to [email protected] please?

Cant do pictures sorry. Camera no longer recognised by the computer, have to faff around with card readers, use phone for pictures now but dont know how to get them to the computer.

I have my old unit in front of me, it has the same part number as yours and the manufacture date is 06-06

Hi J.R just removed my unit and the one i purchased was different.  but after an hour (dropped the nut behind the brake pads) i now have mine out and jut wondering if i want to pay £125 for a new one and fit it my self or just open my old one and try and get a battery for about £10.  cheap option 1st i think.  cheers for your help.

Type the correct part number into google and see what it brings you, you can get them from Ali-Express for around £40, mine is beyond repair, I will try a £10-15 E-bay one and assume the cells need replacing and hope that the circuit board is not foutu, all the sellers say tested and working but they would wouldn't they!

I'm not sure whether failure of the cell pack would stop the siren working or bring up a fault code on its own, its very quick and easy to cut them apart so you will soon know, let us know how you get on.

All the cheap ones in my range have early build dates so I have to assume the cell packs are dead.

Less than 2 minutes with a hacksaw, you will not prise it apart as it is high frequency welded and completely sealed and airtight.

The seam makes a convenient guide for the blade.

Good news, I look forward to hearing.

Question is it your old one you are repairing?

If so had it stopped working? Did VCDS show it as not communicating?

I still dont know if they will work with a dead battery or whether a new battery will revive a dead unit. Mine is beyond redemption but the answer will tell me whether to buy a second hand one or not.

I really cant see there being a problem with a lower capacity cell pack, where did you order from?

Hi J.R yes battery is from the old original device that i took out, link below of the one i purchased.  and yes device stopped working and i got a fail code on VCDS see below for the code.  as there is a difference in the battery i am hopping it is going to work see pic on the one in the old unit.

if all else fails it either no alarm unit or i bite the bullet and buy a new one at £125 +VAT and fit it myself.

just a couple of things if anyone else is going to try doing this.

1. i know it might sound silly but the wheel is hard to pull put the nuts back in and dont tighten them up all the way and just rock the car.  this will losen the the wheel for you to removed.

2. once off and you are about to replace and secure the device cover the wheel hub with a tea towel as i drop a nut into the wheel hub and brake and it took me 45 mins to get the nut out.  ( i learnt the hard way on that one.

J.R i will get back to you  next weekend on how it all went.

Well JR bad news new battery fitted to the original device and still not working, getting the following error codes.  i have 2 options 1: see if it still drains my car battery if so i will disconnect and go with know device.  2. buy a new alarm from skoda and hope it works?

Thats a bummer  I dont have the fault code for the sensor, I wonder if it is related?

Was there any sign that the old cell pack had leaked onto the PCB? - Mine was black with corrosion and most of the components had been eaten away, may also have been water ingress.

Did the cell pack that you removed have any voltage remaining?

It does not bode well for me buying a second hand one but equally I dont have a lot of faith in a cheap Ali-Express copy.

Hi J.R just a quick update wheel has now been off 3 times the battery option didn't work.  So last night I tried to fit the replacement device from eBay and good news it worked but I couldn't turn it off lol.  So there is nothing wrong with the wiring.  Now I have no alarm fitted so it doesn't drain my battery.  Might look at £150 for a new one in the new year and fit it my self.  Now I'm able to replace it on less than an hour lol, Hope this helps.

  • 2 months later...

Just found this battery. Stock coming in soon.

I will try replacing the one in my siren. I opened it up a few weeks back but had the wrong battery.

Board looks fine, only get a battery low voltage warning in VCDS. No other errors. No leakage on the board.
