Car won't start (and it's not the battery this time)

Featured Replies

SWMBO drove the car a short distance in town to take the kids swimming. Stalled the car while manoeuvring in the car park and it wouldn't restart.

It's like it begins to turn over then decides it doesn't want the engine to run and shuts off straight away.

The engine symbol comes on (exhaust system in the book?) but not the DPF light. The battery light comes on but I think that's just because the ignition is on but the battery isn't charging (because engine not running)

Car park was on a slope, so managed to let it roll to a safe place and there is not so much urgency.

Grateful for any advice as to what might be wrong. We have breakdown cover so happy to call them out (once swimming is done and I'm back in town) but just wondering if it might be something it'll need to go to a dealer to fix, or just a local place.

The car was serviced just on Thursday and I've driven it yesterday. Is it likely something's happened at the service which has taken time to materialise, or am I just joining dots which are not linked?

Most odd.

They came out of swimming and SWMBO tried the car again, and it started at the second attempt and she drove home.

I'm now back, have tried the car and it stats fine with no warning lights.....

crank sensor ?

Better find a diagnostic tool and see what has been stored.

It will light you up for investigation as may happen soon again...

Sounds like an immobiliser issue  from the symptoms but you would of got the key symbol up on the dash.

Similar thing happens though, the car starts and then cuts out

If it was only serviced few days ago I would check the fuel filter is tightened down properly (if changed).

There's two different filters that fit in the housing also, one with new seal and one without (uses original) Worth asking if correct one was definitely fitted.

Is the fuel filter housing soaked?

Fuel filter was one of the things they did change - but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong on the housing

Am chalking it up to being  an "unexplained mystery" - but whatever place gets my custom for the impending brake replacements, I'll see if they can look for logged warnings
