Ignition key warning light

Featured Replies

Hello all, I just bought a new key fob as my old one was done for. I transferred the guts including key and PCB and then went to test. The remote buttons unlock and lock the car as does the key, but when I put the key in the ignition the ignition key light flashes on the dashboard and the car turns over once and dies. Anybody know what I can do?

What age is your car and did you transfer the immobilizer chip?

On earlier cars it's separate to the PCB. Should be a little glass cylinder...

Hi, thanks for your response. It's a 57 and yes I moved the little green PCB, is that what you mean?

I didn't see a glass cylinder, just the PCB. Would a 57 definitely have a separate one?

My immobiliser chip is moulded in with the key blade part as I had thought, to test it I just pulled the key apart, used the fob to unlock the car and then just the key blade stub to start the engine.

Problem definitely sounds like an immobiliser one though.

Youre a life saver. I just had to dig around in the wheelie bin to find the old key. Transponder found and put in the new key, works a treat - thankyou very much!!!

Excellent! Glad you figured it out before bin day :D

All of that could have been avoided by simply pulling the 2 halves of the old key apart (no screwdriver needed) and just clipping the new 3 button and circuit board part onto the old key and transponder part, that is what I have always done.

Glad that the OP found the MIA transponder!!
