Camshaft position sensor

Featured Replies

Having these fault codes on my 2003 1.2 fabia. See pics

Cleaned egr valve and cleared the fault.

Replaced camshaft sensor with a brand new one but fault comes back

cant see any damage to the wiring ect.

Car starts and ticks over and revs fine to 2000rpm. As soon as you hit 2000rpm it starts to judder and lose power.

Car drives fine if you keep revs below 2000rpm

any help most appreciated TIA

Need to check the chain timing, I think.

Why did you clean the EGR valve, was there a fault indicated for that too?

Timing is out.

Also what’s  the process to adjust the timing? Has the chain got to come of? Ect

thank you

You want to check the timing first by inserting the locking tools.

If it is out the timing chain, tensioner and guides will need renewing.

You can check it without the locking kit, approximately at least.  There's a blanking plate at the (nearside) end of each camshaft on the rocker cover, which reveals the ends of the cams, with slots for the locking tools. Get Number 1 spark plug out and insert a long tool to find TDC (will be easier if all plugs are out to remove compression). Then look at the two slots in the cams, hoping to find them aligned with each other. Some photos of what I did a third of the way down the first page of this thread: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/235977-wideband-lambda-on-12-12v-azq-egr-valve-in-the-end/

update, checked timing cam positions like wino said and they line up.

Also if i I disconnect the cam sensor and the egr (as pics) the car starts and runs rough exactly the same as when connected.

Any more ideas? TIA

If you clear the fault codes down and run up what is now present?

EGR isn't used during cold-start, or idle, so I wouldn't expect that to make any difference. If cam sensor data isn't available, the engine management just goes into batch firing of the injectors instead of sequential, I seem to remember; so again, probably wouldn't be noticeably different anyway.

EGR potentiometer, cam sensor and MAP sensor all share a 5V supply out of the engine ECU though, so maybe check that 5V is present on (say) the cam sensor connector with ignition on?

Pin 1, red/green wire, relative to pin 3 earth brown/blue wire
