Apple CarPlay not reading messages through infotainment.

Featured Replies

My 2018 FL vRS has recently stopped reading Messages - both Text and Whatsapp.

I am using an iPhone 8+ running 12.0.1.

When I get a notification on the screen I press the arrow, the display changes and I see the "voice waveform" appear but nothing audible is coming out of the infotatinment.

Anyone else with the same problem?

I’ve never had a problem with mine, but iOS 12.1 is out now, perhaps try updating the phone and see what happens. If you want to stay on iOS 12.0.1, try holding the power and volume down button to reset it and take it from there. You can also try resetting SmartLink on the radio settings as well.

I’ve tried resetting most things @SashaGrace except myself!

I also can’t hear the requests for name when I want to Call someone. I’m gonna try my work phone - iPhone SE tomorrow but I think it’s on 12.0.1 as well. I will do this before I update to 12.1

This issue isn’t shown in the list of bug fixes for 12.1 either.

I had the same issue a few weeks back.  Tried updating the software, resetting things, un- and decoupling the phone and nothing worked. One morning, it suddenly began working again.  No idea what had happened.

Sorry if this isn’t much help!

Are you using a genuine cable? I use an aftermarket one and occasionally the car doesn't want to recognise that I've plugged my phone in and connects it as a USB device.

Amazon branded Cable, never had a problem and all other CarPlay functions work fine. Waze, Podcasts, Spotify, iPlayer Radio, Phone etc

Dumb question but have you tried adjusting the volume when Siri should be talking? There are at least a couple of separate audio levels, one for music and one for speech. Although you mention it’s fine for Waze and I would think that would be affected also if it was that.

Alternatively maybe head head into the Siri settings on your phone and turn things off and on again, but really I would be surprised if that was any better than a reboot.

Just in case it might help others, I was having a problem with WhatApp messages not being read.

Solution was to turn off fingerprint security to WhatsApp.
