After 3 yetis we have decided its time to try a kodiaq.

Featured Replies

Hi my names andy and i was on the yeti forum many moons ago. After test driving a karoq and a kodiaq having 2 kids and a dog we have decided to trade in our beloved 14 plate yeti 170 tdi 4x4 elegance in jungle green for a kodiaq sportline for a bit more space for holidays and weekends away.  Although i imagine its not the most practical for kids having alcantara  seats they are so comfortable ! Colour is between quartz grey and  velvet red. I love petrol blue also, pity its not available on the sportline .

I intended go for the 150 manual gearbox sportline  until i discovered  its not hologomated for towing! Altough my dealer offered to get  an aftermarket towbar fitted to manual car i was concerned about the warranty . As discussed on several briskoda threads i feel skoda have shot themselves in the foot.  As i really had my heart set on a sportline and the fact i need a towbar for  my joinery business i am going for my first ever DSG car . I imagine it will take a bit of getting used to having always ran manual vehicles.

Sad to be trading in our yeti and leaving the yeti family as we have had 8 trouble  free years ( 3 yeti cars) . Im sure the kodiaq is every bit as good and cant wait to join the kodiaq forum! Its great to have so much information shared on  briskoda  from all you kodiaq drivers . Ive sourced more info on here prior to ordering my car than the salesman could offer.

Sorry if this is a bit long  winded( im not sure if this should have been posted in the kodiaq  owners register section)

Thanks again

Andy.

Your dealer should be more worried that it's illegal to do this on a car that isn't homologated than you are about the warranty.

My Kodiaq is my first ever DSG as well... not sure I'll ever go back. It's just so much more relaxing - and when you get to a certain stage of life where your car is there to get the family around to wherever they need to be, anything that makes driving that little bit more stress-free is always a good thing.

I had 2 Yetis previously, you won’t regret moving from a Yeti to a Kodiaq. Interesting that your dealer offered to fit a towbar to a car that cannot legally have a towbar fitted, genuine or aftermarket.

This is my first DSG and it’s was so easy to adapt to, even after only driving manuals for many years. Can’t see me ever going back to having using a clutch and stirring  a gearstick around :)

If it was Skoda Aberdeen John Clark Group that offered to have the towbar fitted that should be ashamed and the Salesperson or whoever needs a talking to.

Illegal in a serious way for them to be involved in anyway with supplying or in arranging the fitting.

The DSG's are great, no issues.

I was taken aback when they offered to get a local towbar company  to fit towbar if i still wanted the manual 7 seater. My dads got a DSG karoq and he loves it. He has been trying me for years to shift to DSG. He also thinks we should switch to petrol.  Although we do around 15k miles per year  im unsure as ive never owned a petrol suv.( i once had a cracking fiat 500 1.2pop for a few months after our first yeti got written off by another driver).  Placing order tomorrow before skoda  price increases on tuesday.

Any Company / Professional Fitter knows the law. Knows what can happen to them.  Customers might be unaware or pretend to be but the fitter can not be.

Is it from John Clark you are getting it? because there will be someone reading this that works there.

Unless they got there wires crossed and ment a manual sel  7 seater that was available from stock but without a towbar that i got a price on to save a factory order.

No probs,

i will be mentioning it anyway, just incase someone there is not clued upon things.

Welcome Andy.

Slightly related comments, good choice on your bike. I used to have a KDX 200 many moons ago.

Funnily enough the bike was the reason I fitted a Fiesta tow bar to my MkI Ka, which also wasn't homolgamated for towing.

Sorry officer!

Nice bike silver1011. What age of bike is it? I used to have a 1989 honda cr 125. How was the Ka at towing?

It was a 1989 'G' reg, one of the last air-cooled ones. The Ka was built on the fiesta chassis, and even had the same 1.3 Endura push-rod engine.

It towed well, albeit illegally :D

I can’t quite see, but if your Ka was on a 1997 R plate then I think it pre-dated the requirement for towbars to be type approved. I don’t quite remember how the legislation worked.

My first car was an 'S' reg Ka2 - the engine needed a little more poke, but it was still awesome fun to chuck round bends thanks to the go-cart-ness off it.

It came in with Cars first registered on or after the 1st August 1998.  & 1999 in Northern Ireland.

I used to tow my bike trailer to the motocross racing in my L reg subaru justy  4x4 3 cylinder 1.2 with 13 inch snow tyres. It was comical at one  race in winter loads of big 4x4 ie BMW  X5 and Range Rovers with wide wheels  towing trailers stuck on hard packed ice/ snow on steep incline and my trusty justy just trundled past!

The trim level does not matter. Last time I checked, any Kodiaq 2.0 150PS diesel with 4WD, Manual gearbox and 7 seats cannot legally be fitted with a towbar.

So - get the specification you want - just avoid the combination above no matter what a sales person thinks.

There's a big long thread on it here: DON'T buy a 2017/18 150PS, 4WD, MAN, 7 Seat if you tow

It was a 98 on an R.

R425 DWY, not sure what month it was registered though. My first brand new car, Ka3, Autumn Green with a rear spoiler :D
