Bolero Head Unit Update

Featured Replies

Hi all

Trying to update my Bolero head unit on my Skoda Fabia MK3 but I'm not sure if they have released a newer update for it at all. I've tried the update portal but no luck.

Can anyone who has the same model tell me what software version they are on please and are on the latest. version I'm ideally hoping to get Android Auto working but I don't think my Pixel 2 XL is compatible.

Cheers :)

What is your current model number and SW version? You can check in menu Setup / System Information

Is compatible, but have you downloaded the app 'Andriod Auto' from the play store to your phone?

Have you got smartlink as an option on your menu section of the Bolero unit?

Thanks AG Falco

Unfortunately 5L0035820 support ONLY MirrorLink, not SmartLink, so it's NOT possible to activate Android Auto, Apple CarPlay nor Voice Control :( You must have ythe unit physically exchanged :(

Hi @pab567 @AGFalco I did think this would be the case. I have downloaded the Android Auto app but to no avail. Smartlink isn't available as an option. It might be the year of Fabia I have, it doesn't come with.

Do you know which unit I can exchange with for this to work?

Your unit is 5Q0035820 which is Bolero with DAB, without Voice Control and without Rear View Camera (RVC) input. I recommend to switch either to Bolero 5Q0035842A or Amundsen 5Q0035874A. Both units have DAB and support SmartLink, Voice Control and RVC. They can also be hacked with SW solution only (no need for patching and CAN filter).

Do you know where I can get either of these units to? Ideally the Bolero.

Cheers

You can checked local wreckers (I'm not 100% sure this is the right word - companies that disassemble / destroy old or broken cars), ebay auctions etc. Just pls note your Skoda dealer can only remove Components Protection and then you need to find someone who will hack this unit and install FEC/SWaP codes.

Yeah I think I will try that,

@pab567I'm shopping for a MK3 Fabia 2015-2017 plate but the dealers are telling me different things about whether apple car play is supported on the bolero. Please can you tell me how I can tell? Is there something I can get the dealer to do to check the unit version and is there somewhere that I can look it up.

If none of them support it is it possible to change the unit for one that does support apple car play and will all the other things continue to work (car data, reverse sensors, etc)

Thanks a lot for your help.

yes, they can check model number in menu SETTINGS then SYSTEM INFORMATION. To have CarPlay support you must have one of 5Q0035840x / 5Q0035842x / 5Q0035864x / 5Q0035874x where x is a lter A (MY16), B (MY17) or C (MY18). If unit is different then yes, it's possible to change the unit for one that does support apple car play, all the other things will continue to work (car data, reverse sensors, etc) if new unit is properly prepared.

Hi @pab567

i have a skoda fabia drive combi 2017 with also the bolero unit 5Q0035820C, hardware h41and software 0468.

I would like to use carplay. I understand that the unit is not suitable for carplay. If I change the unit to a 5Q0035842C would that be plug and play and work properly or are there further doings to activate/code the unit?

Thanks!

@Floreien you will not be able to have CarPlay enabled officially, new unit (Bolero 5Q0035842C or Amundsen 5Q0035874C) must be patched. Pls contact me on PM if you are interested.
