Cost of replacement cat

Featured Replies

I need to replace the catalytic convertor as the current one is breaking up internally. My local village garage don't seem confident about doing it - saying it may mean dropping the subframe and they don't think the car merits the cost of the work. Has anyone done this before? Also wondering about whether to use a genuine part or not; cost varies from £128 for the cheapest to £744 from the main dealer. I'm not sure I'm ready to scrap the car over something like this but can see that the cost could escalate if their fears are correct.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Try kwifit or other such place. They will give you a fixed price quote. Had one done at kwikfit on 1.9 tdi Alhambra, it took them 10 minutes, good quality part, new bolts etc. £170. No point in paying dealer prices on a 13 yr old car.

A catalytic convertor on a 1.9 tdi diesel engine?

Or a particulate filter?

Editted, I have learned my lesson for today, one of many, thanks to Google.

Just when i thought my vehicle was uncomplicated compared to later ones.
