Hi everyone. We’ve had the gearbox installed, car is moving. My next question is does the software definitely need updating? It’s a 2011 and the gearbox we have had installed come out of a 2013. We’ve not tried to drive it on the road yet as don’t want to damage it. We’ve been quoted 150 for the software to be updated - is it necessary?

Hiya, when you say the car moves have you tried it through the gears, and are there any symbols or warning lamps appearing anywhere on the dash, including in the area where it shows which gear you are in the PRNDS area?

My instinct is that I would get the software update done in order that you have the comfort of knowing you have done everything you can to have the car right, and hopefully a1ok again. But you may need to speak to the specialist themselves to find out. I know that when ours was replaced earlier this year, and that was brand new from the factory and partially coded to our vehicle, even then it had to have the latest software installed after the basic settings were done.

Thanks. We are going to get the software update tomorrow. Far too much money gone into it to start cutting corners now. Fingers crossed tomorrow when we get it on the road it goes through all the gears ok. One thing our mechanic mentioned though was something about the linkage being different in the 2011 and 2013.

Hiya, how is your wee car going? Hopefully all is well and car back on the road running well.

It worked. Wasn’t driving right before the software update. Cost £80 for the software upgrade and now runs like a dream. So my original question of can you replace a gearbox with a different code, the answer is yes. But must come from same spec car. It worked for me but might not for everyone, my experience is just for guidance. Thanks to everyone that commented :)
