Remote LED and battery replacement

Featured Replies

I collected our new car today, a used Mk3 petrol Vrs. Very impressed with the car, made me smile all the way home :)

One thing I did check when I got back was the spare remote, and I noticed that the LED doesn't light up when pressing the buttons.

Thinking it was the battery I opened it up and swapped the batteries over from the one that is known to work.

Still no joy, so put the batteries back as they were.

Went to try both remotes on the car and they both unlock and start the car - still the spare key fob doesn't light up (I can't see away to get to the board and check the LED).

I did notice that the dash now says that I need to replace the batteries in both key fobs.

I'm assuming that this is because I swapped the batteries over, but can't understand why both key fobs would be affected?

I don't know why it's done that unless the working one was low on battery in the first place, also it's not a great idea to handle lithium button cells with greasy fingers, I always try to use a tissue or gloves when doing it.

Best thing pop down to a larger branch of Boots who often do the batteries (either a 2032 or 2025) on a 2 for 1 or buy one get 2nd ½ price basis, then buy some extras on Ebay or Amazon as backups. Replacing both will eliminate one probable cause.

No LED signifies that the battery has been discharged and requires replacement; however, once you have removed the battery you are required to press one of the buttons on the fob to reset fob prior to inserting the new battery.

Thanks both.

I've ordered some spare Sony batteries from ebay, will see how I get on.

Thanks

Batteries came today. Fitted both, and both remotes appear to work ok.

Thanks for your help.
