Skoda service plan,is it worth it?

Featured Replies

Available Service Plan for your vehicle:

1 Oil Service & 1 Oil service and inspection

This ŠKODA Service Plan provides cover for the first 2 consecutive services, (limited to 1x oil service & 1x oil & inspection service) in line with ŠKODA manufacturer's recommended service schedule.

 £279.00 One-off payment
£15.50 Per month (18 monthly payments)

I'm considering purchasing a service plan for my new Fabia. Has anyone bought one and is it worth it?

Up to you,   Is that at any Skoda Main Dealership,   not just the one signing you up?

How many miles a year do you do?

Not much gets replaced in the way of part in the first 2 or 3 years.

A Major Service / Flexible is at between 18,500-19,500 miles or 24 months, it is about £279.

'2 Consecutive services' (years).

So that  is fixed service is it not, so at 9,400 miles / 372 days, which ever comes first.   What is now a £99 service for older cars.

Then another 9,400 / 372 days later.  Not much getting done, Oil / Filter, Pollen and Inspection etc.

Not a Minor & Major Service.

This is for car 3-10 year old on Fixed Servicing.

3 years is when the Brake Fluid gets done, 4 years Air Filter & Spark Plugs maybe.

It's online, not offered by the dealership,so presumably any Skoda garage?.

I'll be doing less than 10,000 miles a year so a fixed service.

I want a Skoda service history as I've found it helps when selling the car on.

Agreed on the Skoda service if you are buying it or leasing and have to have it.

For the period of the Warranty and especially since the 1.0 TSI with GPF is still an unknown quantity.

You want the Diagnosis at 1 year and 2 years, road test etc etc.

So if you are happy paying £279 then fine.   But as it is a 1 year service and the 2nd one should only be £279.

Be sure they are going to use VW508 / 509  oil so 0w 20 FS LL oil since that is what it is coming from the factory with.

They probably will say VW504 / 507 is to spec and it will be, but ask, the car is WLTP Approved with VW508 / 509 oil.

I just bought the £279 for two services, mainly because is more-or-less obligatory to comply with the 3 year guarantee.

For the third year I'll go to a local garage I trust, but that's mainly because the Skoda main dealers is a bit of a pain to get to for me.

3rd year is when you want the MOT done before the Manufacturers Warranty expires and then any Warranty Work doing.

The Brake Fluid changed as well.

I would recommend a Service at a Main Dealers after having the MOT done by AN-Other.

I think that it was nearer the £300 mark that we paid our VW dealer for 3 years cover including the first MOT back in August 2015, I had done my sums based on dealer prices when we bought the car and had always intended to use the dealer while in warranty - it all panned out okay,  I replaced the brake fluid just before this point, so only got a reminder about wipers and brake fluid on my sales document.

One thing, okay when I got this work done these cars came with a service booklet, but after collecting the car after its minor service at year1, I did not get any paperwork, I requested a "bill of sale" even although it could show FOC, I really wanted a list/statement of all work carried out and parts used, they were a bit shocked about me asking for this as it had already been paid for, so I was invited to wait 14 days and contact their accounts department and they would provide me with a copy of the workshop job sheet - after my initial annoyance I forgot about doing anything, but at the next service I made sure that they knew I would be expecting this, on collection the service receptionist just copied the docs being sent to their accounts department so that was okay.

Now maybe I was just being an old moaner, but there is a race to the bottom at least from what I've noticed with VW dealerships (actual contact with customers is minimised and the technical ability of service receptionists has been dropped back to supermarket checkout level) and they can't see any reason to hand over any paperwork if you have already paid for it, ie not your right! So just make sure that you do get a copy covering all work that has been carried out and that includes warranty work and all prepaid service work, always handy to have in case of future issues.

Edit:- in the case of the 2015 Polo 1.2TI, I was bit surprised that they used the "cheaper 5W-40" oil, but that is in line with fixed servicing, what did annoy me was that they used a basic pollen filter which is not correct for a Polo with Auto AC - so that gave me the excuse to replace it soon after with a Mann Frecious filter bought from ECP on one of their better discount events!

I booked the first two consecutive services which you can book up to just before the 1st service / less than 1 year old / less than 9400 miles.

The fixed servicing plan can be used at any Skoda Dealer and was £269.00 at the time for me booked through the dealer.

You have to request details of what is being done from the dealer. There is no service book with the car.

I think this is because you are paying Skoda and the dealer is then charging Skoda for the work.

You are not the paying customer from the dealers point of view.

I have just booked my third interim service at £169.00.

I am on fixed servicing but I am doing just under 1000 miles per month.

So my 3rd service is being done in December with the car at 28,200 miles and at 31 months old.

I keep my cars a long time and will do my own servicing once it is out of warranty.

The 4th service will be due when the car is about 39 / 40months old.

Thanks AG Falco
