Superb Holiday II – Sicily 2018

Recommended Posts

It was a pretty good holiday. A couple months of planning and learning the language. Just over three weeks on the road. Two months to get the trip report done. Now I'm wondering where to next?

The Sportline is a very good cruiser and I like driving it. I intentionally bought a big car after having owned an Alfa Romeo Brera for three years. Plenty of room for passengers and loads of boot space. But, when we're not touring, it sits for two weeks at a time at the curb side between runs to the shops. And I can count the times we've had back seat passengers on one hand. Frankly, it's more car than I need. So, I'm also wondering what I'll be driving on the next road trip. (In Italy, I kept wishing I was driving a Fiat 500. Maybe I should make Superbtte an offer on his Abarth 595.)

Or, maybe our next holiday won't be a driving holiday? Who knows what it will be like to cross the channel after March? I'm thinking: London's a pretty nice town. If we just took the bus into town and spent that money here, we could really live it up! We also have our Senior Railcards. In the past, we've done long weekend rail trips to Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Edinburgh and Glasgow. And a day trip to Leicester. And we enjoyed all those towns. And didn't need Duolingo.

If we're going to be Little Britain after March, maybe I should embrace the concept and look inward. Do a loop around the UK – a "Backstop Tour". Around the Highlands, cross to Belfast, down the west of Ireland, Rosslare to Fishguard. I've done the ring of Kerry on my bike and I like Ireland. Scotland and Wales are beautiful.

Hmmm. Lots to think about.

Sicily Trip Report

I've just posted my trip report for September's drive to Sicily and back, in case anyone's interested.

Cheers,

Jerry

Any chance of a itinerary of the route and where you stayed/ate/ what you saw/other random stuff? Sort of one line for each stage...I might nick it for a trip :)

Ha! I can recognise a lazy man when I 'see' one! :D

And because I'm lazy too, this is what I'll do for you. Here are the GPS destinations I programmed into "Susan". All the hotels,B&B's and restaurants (good and bad) are mentioned in the trip report. If you plug in the GPS numbers into Google Maps and allow tolls, you'll get the route I took.

As I know you like Google Maps, have a look at what3words as you'll find it makes finding places a lot easier and integrates perfectly with various other routing setups.

harsh.poems.remote in what3words format will give you the entrance to my London house as an example. ;)

(deep bow) I didn't realise I was addressing a royal!

I've read about this three word address system, but don't know how to apply it to my daily life. Downloaded the app, but not sure what to do with the info. Plug the phone into Android Auto? I did find my doorstep, but it's not nearly as interesting as yours.
