  1. It's where I keep my pedal box controller. Haven't had to open it in five years!
  2. I echo the above post. A pedal box is not a remap. It only compensates for "throttle lag". Um, for which it does a very good job...
  3. My TSR was unlocked by VCDS. In my experience, there must be a bit of sat/nav guidance, because when I get the max speed sign (white circle with a black diagonal line through it) on a highway, the TSR shows 60mph, but when I'm on a motorway it shows 70mph. I don't blindly follow the TSR though. Sometimes it displays incorrect info. In London, a lot of the 20mph speed restrictions are just painted on the road. It seems the whole of the north and south circular is 20mph! Mayor Khan really does want to get us out of our cars.
  4. DTUK Pedal Box I installed one of these to combat throttle lag. Works great. Pretty much plug'n'play, just a tight squeeze to get under the dash. Multiple settings for speed of response. I've not read a complaint from anyone on this site that installed the box. (edit) I've left it in place during the annual service with the dealer and it has never been mentioned. I have declared it on my insurance.
  5. Both my front windows are very finicky about "touch" on the switch. How long you hold it down or up has to be perfect to get the one-touch. I adapt to the requirements, if I don't get it right the first time. Never occurred to me to replace the switch.
  6. You can see I average 4K miles per year. My biggest problem is: I park outside and the car sits for weeks at a time. If I drive in the wet before it's parked, the brake pads stick to the discs. I had to have my local free the pads on one occasion. From ten feet away, you'd think the car was new, except for the curb feelers, um, rims.
  7. I was just singing the praises of my 7-year-old Škoda Superb Sportline hatchback. However, after starting a sat/nav destination, halfway through the drive, the system rebooted, losing the route when the system was back up. This happened three times on three different days, but not all the time. I did a force reboot, but don't know if there is anything else I might try to sort the occasional problem. Any ideas? Thanks.
  8. 7th annual service and MOT, but first by my local independent. 27,000 miles and just returned from a 16-day trip to the Orkneys. Car ran perfectly. I washed it before I gave it to them. No one likes working on a dirty car. They did a major service, all the filters - no spark plugs - wheels rotated. £327. About the same as my 4th service from the dealer. All the parts were more expensive, but no surprise there. As the dealer is in Croydon and the indie is a three minute walk away, it saved me a 90-minute drive and two train rides. Car passed its MOT with flying colours. Only advisory was only 60% left on rear brake pads. Mechanic said it's a nice, clean car. I guess I'll keep it. I think I'll have the wheels balanced and aligned next.
  9. My Sportline is seven years old. I can't comment on the gearbox, as I only have 25K miles on it. I have the sunroof and have never had a problem. After the DSG box, I will never go back to a manual.
  10. Booked my next annual service with a local independent garage. For the past six years, the only people to service my car is the dealer that sold it to me. I can't fault their work (Marshall's Croydon) but it is a 30-minute drive there, two train rides and a 45-minute drive home. My local garage has a good reputation, I have used them on previous vehicles, and the Big Red Bus is no longer under warranty. Oh yeah, the local garage is a two-minute walk from home. It actually takes longer to drive the car there! My first service with them will be a minor service and MOT, but I have asked that they give the car a very good look over. I want to keep the most reliable car I've ever owned in top condition at least until Mayor Khan makes it obsolete.
  11. I have the hatchback version of your car. I park on the street and for six years the car went relatively unscathed. This year...! I have a dent on the nearside front wheel arch that looks like a kid on a scooter hit the car with his handlebar. I got in touch with a dent puller outfit and they want £540 to fix it. That's more than I pay for insurance, but if I involve the insurance company, the premium will double. I scuffed the rear wheel arch on a roadside bike locker. Two weeks later, I scuffed the rear door (same side) on a pillar in a very tight and dark underground car park. I was barely moving, but managed to put a 3" mark on the car. I will have this car, still parked on the street, until Mayor Khan decides to make it obsolete. I used to take some pride in its appearance, so I got out my scratch-removing compound, applied some muscle grease and some touch up paint. I swear, the car looks like new from 20 feet. Okay, 30 feet. The dent I'm gonna have to live with. Good luck with your insurance company.
  12. I have to ask: did your other half scrape the car along one of the street bicycle lockers? Looks just like the scrape I put along the side of my car. I hate self-inflicted wounds...
  13. Halfords fit my new battery for £25, but in the shop.
  14. Purchased demo Sportline in January 2017 with 1,700 miles on it. Just nudging 25K miles now. Only time it's required servicing other than normal annual service is when it sat for four weeks and the pads froze to the discs. "Drive it more," said the mechanic.
  15. I bought my Sportline in December 2016 with 1,700 dealer miles on it. I've done 23,400 since, averaging 36.4 mpg measured at the pump. Except for loose window trim, I've only ever spent money on annual services and a battery after 6 years. Best Most reliable car I've ever owned. When they finally install electric charging points in my neighbourhood, someone is going to get a really nice petrol motor. (Edit) Forgot a new set of Vredestein tyres I bought to replace the Pirelli's I never really liked.
  16. It was a sad day when I found it was going to cost more to fix my Nakamichi than it cost new. Great deck.
  17. I have a CD player in my Columbus unit (glove box) . You have to be really careful of potholes. As a result, it never gets used, even though it has had a CD queued up in it for the past seven years!
  18. I stopped in Bloxham for petrol. Loads of different diesel, but the only petrol on offer was the E10. First tankful of that stuff, so I'm curious to see how it goes. Last tank of Shell V-power gave me 35.9 mpg, which is in the middle of my expected range. I do a lot of short urban miles.
  19. I had a 256Gb SD card in use. The limit is not on the size of the card, but the number of files. The infotainment system will only read the first 9,999 files on the card, the rest get ignored. I forget where I read this. I now use a 128Gb card and a 64Gb card, plus there's the Jukebox on the system (10Gb?) and I've got a 32Gb USB stick plugged in next to the cigar lighter.
  20. My six-year-old has been parked outdoors since purchase. The sunroof works fine and is used as often as possible. Just make sure yours is working before purchase. The only time I ever had trouble with a sunroof was on a 1995 Renault 19, which was routinely parked under a lime tree. The tree sap sealed the roof and the motor broke when I tried to open it. I don't park under trees anymore.
  21. Well, if your car came from Marshall's in Croydon, I've got your umbrella! 😁
  22. I've always lusted after a V8 Mustang, but I suspect the wide open spaces of Adelaide might be a better place to drive one than London.
  23. I bought the sales manager's car (1,700 miles). When I picked it up, I noticed there was no umbrella in the passenger door. The manager nicked an umbrella from another car and sent me home happy. Five years later, I have never opened either one of those umbrellas.
  24. Thanks for that. A 64 Gb SD card it is, then. Maybe Black Friday will come in hand after all...
