Oil Service Already????

Featured Replies

So, I bought the car on 26th September with 32,000 on the clock. I was assured that it had had a 'full Service' prior to my purchase. Now, with 34,500 (approx) on the clock, I'm getting an "Oil Sevice in 1,000 miles" warning.

I only commute to work, mainly motorway driving. Is it normal for a service warning to come up so soon??? Or have I been duped with the ' full Service' at time of purchase?

Bought from a main dealer?

Ask to see proof of the service before getting the service indicator/reminder reset.

If you don’t see proof of service then I’d be asking for it to be carried out ASAP but I’d also be weary of the same garage ‘doing’ the work they have already claimed to have done.

Could be a geniune mistake....

No the minimum you can expect is 9400 miles (15,000 km) or 372 days (1 year).

Either the service wasn't done, or they didn't reset the service indicator.

Either way, they cannot prove it was done, so demand a full service and proof it is done. (I would mark the oil filter, ask for the sump plug to be returned and check the oil level and cleanliness before accepting it)

Yeah, Gloucester dealer. Funnily, when I asked for the service book, they laughed and said service books and stamps were a thing of the past as it's all digital now. All i needed to do is ask any desler for a printout. I've been asking them for this since the day I bought the car and over half a dozen times since.....still waiting!!

Indeed.  Service details/history are all online now, no physical manuals/logs.  The supplying dealer should be able to show you the history without too much fuss (or I would have thought!).  Go to another dealer and ask them to view the service history as it sounds like the supplying dealer may be hiding something...
