Interior lights not working at all when doors open

Featured Replies

The red door warning lights have been hanging out the doors for a while. i accidentally shut one in the door and now both sides don,t work and the interior light does not come on when the doors are open.

Just wondering if its maybe shorted out or something?

cheers

Have you checked the fuse?

You want fuse number 4 (10 amp).

What he said. Also if you have the 3 position courtesy light switch, it can get into the "off" position without you noticing.

Fuse was blown, interior lights do work now but the main centre light still doesn't come on no matter what position the sliding switch is in. Will there be any other fuses for this? Cheers

No other fuses. Have you checked the bulb? Bulb type is C10W

The light does come on when it's slid to the far left option. Sorry I thought it didn't. Just when it's in the position for the door being open it doesn't work.

I seem to remember that my interior light comes on when you remove the key from the ignition irrespective of whether the door is open or not, it only goes off on a timer or when you actually lock the car.

Well, sepulchrave's statement also describes the "switch off and leave car" functionality of my central interior light.

Perhaps the bulb has blown but we're heading off into "has it run out of fuel" or "is it plugged in" territory now.

Probably blown bulb, but might be worth fiddling with the map light switch as both Fabia’s I own have a dodgy one that works when moved very slightly.

the bulb has definitely not blown as it works when the switch is slid to left for all 3 interior lights to work. When key is removed from ignition its in total darkness. the centre light only works when all 3 lights are turned on

Does the lights-on warning bleep sound when you open the drivers door with your sidelights turned on?

yeah it still beeps

Lower the interior light with plug still attached. Locate the brown/yellow wire in the plug and run a wire from it to a ground on the car body. See if the light comes on then. I suspect it's either a break in the wire or the switch in the light unit is faulty. Also hoping that the short circuit that blew the fuse hasn't damaged the relay in the convenience module.

Replaced both door warning lights and it solved the problem. Cheers anyways

Very odd. There is practically nothing to go wrong with the lights themselves apart from the bulbs. And for two of them to fail is even more odd. Oh well.

They didn't fail I accidentally smashed them to pieces on separate occasions after them dangling out the door for weeks

How did you fix the main centre light not coming on when doors are open?

Once warning lights were replaced the interior lights worked straight away.

On your car, I think the door warning lights and the interior light share a 12V feed from a relay within the Onboard Supply Control Unit (J519) above the accelerator pedal. All three lights also connect on their 'low side' to pin 1 of connector XP4 on the same unit. I guess the one of bust light units in/not in the doors was shorting out the interior light bulb as it is effectively in parallel?

In the permanently on position, the interior light bulb has a simple direct earth connection; and the short would no longer be connected in that position.

Once you removed the short by fixing the door bulbs, normal service was resumed.
