EGR position/ Rear arm rest

Featured Replies

Couple of jobs we need to get done one is needs to be done and the other is an option

Rear arm rest leather the top section with the catch I need to replace it as the catch is broken, Ive found one on ebay but how does the top section come off

ERG valve where is it located on the 2lt diesel, how easy is it to clean and is it worth fitting a blanking plate

Any help would be appreciated

I don't believe the EGR can be blanked off on cars equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

If it's a 140 or 170 common rail then the EGR is at the back of the block, sandwiched between the DPF/downpipe and the engine block. Some people here have reported temporary improvement in EGR function with off-the-shelf cleaners: doing a search should throw up a few.

A blanking plate will cause a lot of problems with the running of the engine. From what I've read on the topic, having it mapped out is a world of pain too. If you're having problems with it, check if the EA189 emissions update is done. If the update has been done, Skoda will replace a faulty EGR for free under the Trust Building Measure. If it hasn't been done, see if you can get it into the dealer to get it done without triggering a fault code (temporary cleaning may work here), and then when it fails claim the replacement under the TBM.

Its a 170 bhp but already been mapped to just over 200 bhp with no problems, its just that I own a Mondeo ST diesel which I had a egr blanked off and it does improve the running and with no problems and no need to clean it

If you blank off the EGR the ECU will throw up a fault code. ( MOT fail )

VW have tracked EGR function in the ECU since about 2004, before that you could blank the EGR without throwing up a code.

Suspect your Mondeo is quite old so doesn't monitor the EGR.

I was thinking of using a blanking plate with the small hole in the centre which shouldn't result in fault?

Any reduction in EGR flow will be picked up by the ECU as a fault. There's a closed loop control system monitoring EGR opening and MAF rate and if it detects any discrepancy you'll get a fault code.

As mentioned earlier, have you had the EA189 emissions recall carried out?

If you have then you can have a brand new EGR valve, fitted for free, at a main dealer, under their Trust Building Measure...

OP already has a remap, so I suspect they won't want to go down that road.

Could scupper the plan, but the dealers have to look hard to notice a remap? I'm not sure all of them look too hard.

My dealer couldn't have done more to get me a new EGR valve under warranty. I think they were quiet and wanted the workshop busy.

The emissions update will overwrite the remap so there's a cost in getting that restored afterwards.
