Intermittent fuel problem on Felicia

Featured Replies

Please can someone identify the cause of the problem I am having with our 1999 Felicia? It's intermittent, which makes it harder. Sometimes it happens when the car has been standing overnight but can also occur when you are on a journey and stop and then try and restart; and it won't fire at all. The only temporary solution I have found is to tip a small amount of petrol into the throttle body (So it's definitely a fuel issue) It will then splutter back to life a cylinder at a time until quite quickly is back up and running perfectly smoothly. Any suggestions to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

What engine it is?

It can be as simple as a failed coolant temperature sensor

or

a fuel pump on its last leg.

I recommend testing the coolant temperature sensor first.

I would say temperature sensor and cam position sensor

Felicia doesn't have a "cam position sensor", whatever you think that is.

By the way, camshaft is not crankshaft.

It's 1.3 petrol

1.6 has camshaft position sensor in distributor, it doesn't have crankshaft sensor.

We're talking about a 1.3 MPI Felicia 1999 with cold start issues here.

Then why you started talking about differences between camshaft and crankshaft? :D

It's not only cold starts. But my car also sometimes won't start without gas after ~20min stop and otherwise works flawlessly, so maybe it's just software bug and separated issue.

Is there some connection with weather? Bad ignition module often fails during high humidity

Because TheFeliciaHacker said it might be a "cam position sensor" issue. On a 1.3 MPI...

You know exactly why yet you keep splitting the hairs. Let's give the original poster the opportunity to check for faults according to our advice. Then we can continue the 'who has a bigger one' game till next summer.

Look closely, when Feliciahacker wrote about sensor, we didn't know it's 1.3. :) We still don't know for sure it's MPI, it's just most likely variant in 1999 Felicia. You were one who started with nitpicking even when you didn't know if it's true or not and with no reason to do so. That was my point...

Except anyone can look at user's previous posts and see what car he/she has or worked on.

As for 1.3 engine type, 1999 is for sure MPI since SPI was discontinued back in 1996.

sorry for causing trouble again guys:worried:
