Superb 2005 - automatic transmission. Is it the bad one?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Thanks for a great forum. Been reading around for a while without being a member!

Been looking at a new commuter car. It's a 2005 superb with automatic transmission. I've read quite a lot about the infamous dsg7 gear box. I also seem to have figured out it's called dq200?

However, i also think I understood it like the dq200 was first launched in 2008?

So my questions is, does the 2005 superb have the/a bad gearbox or not?

Many thanks in advance.

Needs oil and filter changing i believe every 40k or it is likely to die at 100k.

I don't think they had invented the 7 speed DSG in 2005 so i think your fine

The box in the Superb is a standard torque converter automatic ZF 5HP19 5 speed unit.  A lot of them die around 100K if the fluids haven't been changed (and maybe if they have - there is a fairly frequent failure of the aluminium drums inside which breaks reverse).

I had mine rebuilt at 95K as it failed with reverse - cost over £1500 to rebuild - and I put another 150K miles on it after that over 5 years (without a fluid change, naughty...)
