Hi guys, I have a strange problem with my 2006 Octavia 1.9 elegance, I noticed the other day during rubbish weather that my front fog lights were going on and off when they felt like, when they were going on and off I can hear a relay clicking, also at the same time my rear wiper stops as well, also the front washers stop working but the headlight washers work fine. The problem seems to be related because when one problem starts working, they all start working!

 

Anyone any ideas?

Could be water getting into the under bonnet e-box, common problem I believe.

I think it's near the battery somewhere. It's got all of the engine bay fuses and relays in it and I sure I've read of some suffering damp issues with strange electrical gremlins being the outcome. I believe drying out with a hairdryer is recommended, although never had to go into it on mine.

If would suggest a control module fault somewhere.

 

Don't underestimate a failing battery though. They are well documented as causing some very strange (and unlikely) electrical faults, even if the car starts well.

You should update your VCDS version.

 

At a guess, I'd start by trying to solve this bit:

Ok thanks guys, I don't think it's a battery problem, the battery is less than a year old and is a Bosch 5 year guarantee one, but always have a open mind. I see that the faults all lie with the bcm, and I have always fancied having the options of having things like cornering lights etc but my bcm isn't a 30 byte one, so I ordered a AJ bcm from eBay, so maybe that will help.

At least check the relay before trying to replace the BCM otherwise there are likely to be more issues rather than less...
