Boot dampers (bump stops?) - how big are yours

Featured Replies

When I picked it up yesterday I just thought I hadn't closed the boot properly but after a few instances of the boot not closing properly I took a look and noticed the passenger side damper is huge compared to the driver side.

It closes fine when pushing harder but haven't experienced this with any other Octavia?

Don't want to hassle the dealer as it means a long drive when it could be something I can sort my self?

For reference, the other side:

Sorry, but where are these "huge" dampers fitted?

Closing the boot lid may just be a matter of getting used to the effort required.

Imagine dampers is the wrong word. I call them bump stops but they are commonly for suspension.

Referring to the little rubber pegs either side of the latch on the boot lid.

One is much bigger than the other and the boot isn't always closing properly so I have to open and close harder (a bit of force)

My MY17 Octi never had any problems :(

Have you tried turning the one that looks huge, sometimes these rubber stops turn in or out as adjustment.

Don’t they just adjust in and out on a thread?

It did twist but with a bit of force. I'll give it another go later on and let you know how it goes.

Thanks :)

I just measured both of mine.  They stick out 16mm.  Perhaps whoever assembled your tailgate picked the wrong one, or was given the wrong one.  Perhaps the production line was changing over from one model to another when yours came along?

It would be interesting if others with different models measured theirs and posted the figures.
