A warning to mobile phone users like me who stupidly place their phone on top of the dashboard while opening the door.   As I faffed around getting out the car and gathering stuff, my phone (a Samsung) slid right down the sloped dashboard and became wedged between the dash and the windscreen.   

 

A mild panic came over me as i could no longer see the phone at all, either from inside or out of the car.   It was well down.  

 

I tried to retain my composure by thinking "if it went down, it can come back up".    What ensued next was a desperate effort to scoop out the phone while trying not to scratch the inside of the windscreen or damage the dash.  Thought about using a ruler (too rigid, could scrape windscreen or break), a pen (scraping and not long enough) a knitting needle (no flex and will scratch).    Eventually I was able to use a fairly thick card brochure thing that was long enough to get down, rigid enough to "scoop", and smooth enough not to scrape.  Even then, it only got the phone up so far and I had to use my thankfully thin fingers to pull it out.  The angle of the windscreen made this very tricky too.  Eventually after about 10 minutes of grappling and dark thoughts about having to replace the windscreen.....  I got it out.   

 

So take this seasonal festive advice....  do not place your phone (or other thin items such as credit cards etc) on top of the dash.... The Skoda Superb has a perfectly shaped void to swallow such things forever.

My mother in law's disabled badge made a dash for the  slot once. I don't know if it would have completely disappeared but it had me worried.

I have seen rubber strips on aliexpress that sits between dash and windscreens

I thought there is good reason for that gap though? There must be some reason because that's pretty much crappy thing to have on dashboard lol (the gap i mean).

Not too sure. I never put anything on my dash so have no worries or need for that seal. Just thought id mention it

The only thing I have on my dash is a bag of moisture absorbing crystals. But thanks for the cautionary tale. Joe
